Lenovo Flex 5G goes official in the US with Snapdragon 8cx 5G and Windows 10

Earlier this year at CES 2020 – one of the few public-technology events we had this year – Lenovo announced the Yoga 5G 2-in-1 convertible laptop. The laptop came with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx platform. It’s the chipmaker’s first high-end ARM-based SoC totally focused on “Always On, Always Connected” PCs. For that reason, the Lenovo Yoga 5G also came with a special version of Microsoft’s Operating system dubbed Windows 10 on ARM. The very same OS came in the Microsoft Surface Pro X and Samsung Galaxy Book S. Unlike the Surface Pro X and Galaxy Book S, however, the Yoga 5G came with 5G NR support. Now, Lenovo has just announced a partnership with Verizon to bring the Yoga 5G to the United States. In Uncle Sam’s country, the laptop carries the Lenovo Flex 5G moniker.

Gizchina News of the week

Like Microsoft and Samsung’s offerings, the Lenovo Flex 5G boasts Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx 5G compute platform. The Verizon variant of this laptop is designed to support the carrier’s Ultra Wideband mmWave 5G NR Network as well as sub-6GHz 5G networks. Besides its 5G capabilities, the Lenovo Flex is a very interesting laptop for enthusiasts. It comes with a 360-degree hinge and the display supports touch input. It’s also lightweight weighing just 2.97lbs. It has a 14-inch 1080p display with slim bezels on three sides. Specs-wise, the laptop has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. The laptop has two USB-C 3.1 ports, a headphone/microphone combo port, and a nano-SIM slot. Lenovo rates the battery with 60Wh and offers up to 25 hours of battery life. Of course, this will vary by app usage. As far as security is concerned, the laptop comes with a fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication.

The Lenovo Flex 5G will be available across the US on June 18th at Verizon. Customers interested will need to pay $1,399 or $58,33 in 24-monthly installments through Verizon Device Payment Plan. Moreover, the laptop will be available later this year outside of the country. In the United Kingdom, the laptop will be sold via EE. Sunrise will sell it in Switzerland, and China Mobile in China. Interestingly enough, Verizon is launching new 5G plans to coincide with the launch of Flex 5G. The new 5G Ultra Wideband Connected Device Plan starts at $30 per month. Verizon will also be offering several accessories to go along with the new laptop. That includes a incase sleeve, Logitech Pebble mouse, and a USB-C hub if you think two ports aren’t enough.
