OnePlus TV with low prices ($300) to get these features

It’s a known fact that OnePlus is foraying into the affordable Smart TV space in July. The company has been teasing it for a while now. However, the company’s CEO Pete Lau has himself revealed some key features of the TV. These include Cinematic Display with DCI-P3 colour gamut, a new Gamma Engine and Dolby Vision support.

Pete, through a blog post on OnePlus’ community forum has briefed the picture quality the new TVs are likely to offer. He said that with the launch of new TVs in mid-range and entry-level segments, OnePlus hopes to give premium experience by emphasizing on the Picture quality more than anyone else. 

DCI-P3: Better than the older Rec.709 Colour Gamut:

It’s a no-brainer that the displays on both the upcoming OnPlus TVs will cover 93% DCI-P3 colour gamut. Further, Pete said that DCI-P3, being the newest standard of Color Gamut is 26% larger colour space especially in the Green and Red range of the spectrum than the conventional Rec.709/sRGB gamut. The reason for them to choose this is to give a better HDR content by mastering the DCI-P3 colour space within the UHD Rec.2020 colour space.

This also hints that OnePlus TVs could have displays with HDR certification however, we will wait to wait till the launch to know more. He went on to say that both the OnePlus TVs will give exceptional DCI-P3 performance which albeit not having the 100% coverage, is still quite good and will be called the Cinematic Display.

Gamma Engine + Dolby Vision: Best in the segment

According to Pete, OnePlus seems to have developed a new technology called the Gamma Engine. Through this, the company aims to enhance the processing of pictures to give a super-resolution, dynamic contrast, MEMC, colour space mapping, anti-aliasing and noise reduction.

Pete has assured that the new Gamma Engine will make videos better than ever. Additionally, he added that videos with a lower resolution will get a boost in picture quality, giving users a cleaner, sharper and fluid experience. Apart from this, the new TVs will come with Dolby Vision certification for enhanced picture quality.

Expected Price

If we recall, the upcoming OnePlus had already leaked the Price of new OnePlus TVs. It is expected to start below Rs.20,000 segment and from Pete’s statement, it is clear that OnePlus will also launch a mid-range TV. Let’s wait for deeper insights on pricing as we inch closer to July 2nd.
