Poco’s General Manager Manmohan recently said that the company will bring a new series to India as early as next month. Now, a new leak has indicated that the company could actually bring a rebrand version of the Redmi 9. The handset recently launched in China and Spain. Speculation is that the Poco M2 Pro could be just that.
A rebranded Phone: Again?
The new leak comes from a TUV Rheinland certification where a device under the Poco brand has been listed. It has model number M2004J19PI. This is reminiscent of the Redmi 9 which earlier got certified with a similar model number.
Though the Redmi 9’s previous certifications revealed the device could have other variants, it had the same base model number M2004J19 which is also found on the recently leaked Poco device. This almost confirms that the company is said to rebrand the Redmi 9 that launched recently in China.
Has Poco forgotten its roots?
Poco quickly gained recognition in the industry with the launch of the legendary Poco F1. However, the company remained mum for the entire 2019. Fans went crazy over the internet asking if the brand was alive as Jai Mani resigned and joined elsewhere.
Gizchina News of the week
Roll back to early 2020, CEO Manu Kumar Jain announced that Poco will be an independent brand from thereon with immediate effect. Post this, Manmohan has hopped on the brand’s marketing train and has been promoting the brand since then.
Poco M2 Pro could be a rebranded device: Will this ever end?
Contrary to the early theme that the company boasted of at the F1 launch, the brand went on to rebrand a Redmi K30 4G from China as the POCO X2 in India. Things did not stop there as the company followed the trend by rebranding the Redmi K30 Pro in China as the POCO F2 Pro yet again.
While Manmohan has stressed that the lower-end sibling F2 won’t be a rebranded device, the recent leaks are already showing signs of a possible rebranded device from the company which could be the rumoured Poco M2 Pro from the company.
