MediaTek MT6853 SoC: Budget 5G smartphones will arrive soon

The first rumors about the inexpensive MediaTek MT6853 SoC for budget smartphones has appeared in the spring, and now there are new details. According to an insider at Weibo, this SoC is ready, and in two versions: MT6853V and MT6853Z. Moreover, the first smartphone based on it will arrive soon.

We have no specifics about the technical specs of the processor or the smartphone, but it is reported that such a SoC will reduce the cost of smartphones. The 5G smartphones based on it will cost about $140. But there will certainly be cheaper models – at a price of about $100-120. Of course, they will not be able to offer much in terms of performance, but 5G support will certainly be there. You might also think that the MT6853 will go into the Dimensity line and be a step or two below the Dimensity 800 platform. So it can be called Dimensity 700 or Dimensity 600.

At present, the 5G chips that have been listed mainly occupy the mid-range to high-end mobile phone market, and there are no 5G chips for entry-level models.

Earlier news also said that Qualcomm intends to enter the entry-level 5G mobile phone market. As expected, the Snapdragon 690 is coming with 2 large cores + 6 small cores. Adreno 615 GPU with a maximum frequency of 850MHz. It is indeed enough for the entry-level model.

Rumors and breaking news that MediaTek MT6853 and the models it carries will soon arrive, meaning that 5G will more comprehensively cover the entry-level, mid-range, and high-end mobile phone markets.

At the end of 2019, the company unveiled its most ambitious Dimensity lineup that promised to bring 5G to affordable devices.

Unfortunately, details are pretty scarce at this moment for the new upcoming SoC. But, we expect to get more details soon. MediaTek’s 5G chipsets will be pretty important for the expansion of 5G. While Qualcomm offers models with high prices, MediaTek can take advantage by offering affordable 5G processors.
