When it comes to smartphone chip manufacturing, Qualcomm and MediaTek are household names. While Qualcomm has a firm grip on the high-end sector, MediaTek is preferable for entry-level devices. Although MediaTek tried its hands on some high-end chips, they were not on par with Qualcomm’s solution. Nevertheless, since the unveiling of the MediaTek Dimensity series, it appears that MediaTek’s business is rising. The Dimensity series is a 5G chip series presently, it has the 800, 1000 series. Now, a recent report claims that the company is preparing the Dimensity 600 series.
According to the Taiwan Economic Daily, MediaTek’s mid-range Dimensity 600 chip will officially arrive this quarter. At present, MediaTek has received a large number of orders. Furthermore, many customers have said that they will use the chip in the second half of the year.
Gizchina News of the week
MediaTek Dimensity series has been a revolution
Like we said earlier, MediaTek has 5G chips such as the Dimensity 1000 series and Dimensity800 series. To bring cheaper 5G smartphones to the market, MediaTek will now launch the Dimensity 600 series. As of now, there is no information on the pricing of this chip. However, Taiwan Economic Daily claims that the chip is quite competitive and the order is in good condition. This chip is expected to become the main force of MediaTek’s 5G chip shipments in the fourth quarter. The industry expects that the market performance of MediaTek’s 5G chip business will gradually increase in the second half of this year.
According to reports, MediaTek will hold an earnings report (legal corporate briefing) at the end of this month. There are speculations that the company will announce its second-quarter financial report and new technologies. Furthermore, it may also announce its third-quarter operating outlook and its views on the 5G market development.
In addition to the report meeting at the end of the month, the international ultra-large integrated circuit seminar focusing on 5G and AI technology will start on August 10. TSMC, Intel, IBM, MediaTek, etc. will all attend. There are also expectations that there will be new products at this event.
There is currently a strong need to release cheaper 5G smartphones. It appears that Qualcomm’s chips are not making this easy to achieve. However, MediaTek’s Dimensity chips seem to be the best solution. With the arrival of the Dimensity 600 series, we expect to see cheaper 5G smartphones later this year.
