If you hoped that the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 line would be based only on the SoC Snapdragon 865+ or that the Exynos 990 would be replaced with some kind of updated platform, it looks like you will be disappointed. It seems that the global version of the Galaxy Note 20 models will arrive with Exynos 990 just like the Galaxy S20 series.

There is information on the Web that the new flagships will continue to use the Exynos 990 SoC in most markets. The insider Max Weinbach, also working on the XDA, said that there are no mention of any new SoC other than Snapdragon 865+ and Exynos 990 in One UI 2.5 firmware of these devices. Based on this, Weinbach claims that the Exynos 990 will remain an alternative to Qualcomm’s flagship platform.

Of course, this will upset many potential Note 20 buyers, because there were hopes for using exclusively the Snapdragon 865+. There were also rumors about the Exynos 992, which is very different from the Exynos 990. The result is not the best situation. Exynos 990 in a number of scenarios, loses much not only to the Snapdragon 865, but even the Snapdragon 855. And while the Snapdragon 865+ is only a minor update, the difference between the two versions of the same smartphone will become even stronger.

Samsung does not expect the Galaxy Note 20 to break sales records

It’s no secret that in the first half of this year, the smartphone market experienced stagnation and falling sales. The coronavirus has done its job and the spread of the pandemic has made Samsung understand all this well. So the company does not have high expectations of high demand for the Galaxy Note 20. At least at the start of sales.

It is reported that this time the South Korean giant decided to show prudence and caution regarding the procurement of components for new smartphones. The volume of component orders from third-party suppliers is low. And all because of projected low sales at the start due to the consequences of COVID-19. Now it is difficult to predict the further development of events and what will be the demand for new products.

Judging by the available information, sales of the Galaxy S20 series did not fail, but they were lower than expected. So, for the first quarter of this year, 3.5 million Galaxy S20+ units were sold. While a year earlier it managed to sell 5.2 million Galaxy S10+. And in total during this period 8.2 million of all devices of the Galaxy S20 line, which includes three models, were sold.

But it is worth making one important note. The series itself debuted in February, and its sales started in March. And in fact, 8.2 million devices were sold in three weeks of sales.
