Oppo to reveal whoppping 120W fast-charge on July 15

When it comes to charging solutions, BBK electronics brands, Oppo, Vivo, and Realme are ahead of the bunch. Looks like the trend will continue as Oppo has teased a potential 125W Charging solution. It will be unveiled on July 15th. The technology is expected to be adopted by Oppo, Realme, Vivo and iQoo in the near future.

Looking at the teaser, a flashy counter keeps increasing till it reaches a 125W from 65W. And the arrival date rolls out at the end, but that’s pretty much it. Apart from this, the teaser doesn’t give us anything.

120W: What’s new?

However, spin-off brand of Oppo’s sister-brand Vivo, iQoo, went a step ahead and demonstrated a 120W super flash charger today in China. The new charger will come equipped with an array type pole structure for better thermals.

IQoo said that a device supporting this feature will have a battery based on the Oppo’s proprietary dua-cell technology. The industry’s first 6-C cell and charge at 5v DC at 12A each. It also said that the technology will have a 97% charging conversion rate. This with a typical 4,000mAh battery will be charged completely in 15 minutes which is insane.

Faster charging solutions are not new to the industry. Oppo has generally been the frontrunner in commercialising them. And they certainly aren’t without their caveats either. And it was indeed the case with a crazy 65W charger last year with Reno Ace.

Race for the fastest charging solution

However, Vivo went a step ahead and demonstrated a 120W Super Flash Charging solution back in June 2019. This was followed by rival Xiaomi trying its own luck with a 100W charger that could charge a phone within 17 minutes.

Before the dust could settle, Realme out of no-where was tipped to bring a whopping 120W+ charging solution and the latest tweet of CEO Madhav Sheth reflects the same. Further, a tipster from China has said that iQOO will launch a smartphone next month supporting the 120W fast Charging and the mass production is said to have already begun.

Anyway, Oppo on July 15th could unveil a surprise device with 120W or spearhead the new technology once again but we will have to wait for now. Realme, Oppo, Vivo and its iQOO, being sister companies, share resources with each other and hence it is understandable that all of them are teasing a higher charging solution at the same time.

Nevertheless, interesting times are ahead of us and we look forward to more in the coming days and see what Oppo has in store for us on July 15th.
