Samsung is gearing up to unveil a plethora of new products during its August 5 Galaxy Unpacked event. According to rumors, the company will reveal the next big for the Note series in the form of Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra. Yeah, we won’t have a Note 20 Plus version. Moreover, we also expect to see the next smartphone for the Galaxy Fold series in the form of Galaxy Z Fold 2. We also have other less appealing, but not less impressive products like the new TWS Galaxy Beans and what should be the Galaxy Watch 3. However, the event is also set to introduce a new variant of the flip-folding phone Galaxy Z Flip with 5G connectivity. It will be called Galaxy Z Flip 5G, pretty obvious right?
While the new smartphone is supposed to be released on August 5 at the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event, a Weibo account revealed that pre-orders will start this week. This may be official as it looks since it was published by Samsung Galaxy Account on Weibo, a Chinese social media network. According to the teaser poster, the pre-orders for the 5G foldable phone will start on July 22. That is this Wednesday, which still is two weeks ahead of Samsung’s Unpacked event.
Gizchina News of the week
Galaxy Z Flip 5G is an upgrade in terms of performance and connectivity
Worth noting that this pre-order period may only hit China. After all, what’s the point of announcing it just on a Chinese network? With one of the most consolidated 5G networks, it makes perfect sense for Samsung to put China as its top priority. However, with the launch of the phone happening in the next month, this could be a blind pre-order. Unless Samsung decides to reveal the specifications ahead of the phone’s launch. As per rumors, the phone is more an upgrade than a sequel. For that reason, the specifications aren’t a big mystery.
The new chipset is the Snapdragon 865+ chip complete with its external 5G modem solution. This chipset means much more performance since the Plus variant of the SD865 has a 3.09GHz clock frequency. This is an improvement over the original SD865. Moreover, it’s a bigger upgrade for the original Z Flip that came with last year’s SD855. The remaining specifications should remain the same. We expect new color options to come with this model though.
One of the new colors is the Mystic Bronze. This particular seems to be the main color for this batch of Samsung smartphones. The Fold 2, Note 20 Duo, and the new smartwatch will all have this color option.
