Samsung will reveal the Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Z Flip 5G, Note 20 series, Galaxy Beans, and Galaxy Watch 3 on August 5. However, pricing for the two foldable smartphones has emerged two weeks before the official announcement.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G will go on pre-order this Wednesday. However, we’re assuming that this initial batch of pre-orders will be limited to South-Korea and, presumably, China. A new report from ETNews, it will cost the same as the original Galaxy Z Flip, which is KRW 1.65 million or $1,370. This is a good thing, after all, the new variant comes with a chipset that is far better than the Snapdragon 855+. The Snapdragon 865 Plus is not only better than the last year’s SoC but also better than the vanilla SD865 thanks to its 3.09 clock speed.
The new devices’ price will be similar to their predecessors
As far as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is concerned, the handset will also cost the same as the original model. That means, that we’re looking into another expensive foldable phone with a KRW 2.39 million or $1,990 price tag. Keep in mind that the revised Galaxy Fold 5G model was more expensive at $2,200. The handset even used the S855 which falls below the SD855+ and any chip of the SD865 family. Worth noting, that despite its announcement happening on August 5, the Z Fold 2 will only hit the shelves in October.

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 promises massive improvements over its predecessor. Certainly, it’s more an upgrade than the Galaxy Z Flip 5G is. The new foldable tablet-like phone will have a larger 7.59-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate and S-Pen support. The outer display will be larger too with 4.6-inch to 6.23-inch. According to the reports, the inner panel will use Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) tech just like the original Z Flip. The material will be there more for the optical qualities of the display rather than the scratch resistance.
The rear camera setup will include a triple-module system with a 64MP main, 12MP likely telephoto, and a 16MP ultra-wide sensor. Unfortunately, the new model will not be bundled with TWS earphones. The original Fold came with free Galaxy Buds. As aforementioned, the Galaxy Z Flip 5G will be ready after its launch on August 5. The Z Fold 2, in counterpart, will take a while to hit the shelves. Samsung plans to sell 3 million units this year and in the next one. But the starting supply will be limited. Moreover, the company wants to space out the Galaxy Note 20 series and the Z Fold series to ensure that these devices will not cannibalize each other. For now, it’s not clear if the Z Fold Lite is coming this year or not.
