OnePlus Nord receives its first software update

OnePlus released the OnePlus Nord today as its first mid-range smartphone in years. It’s not as cheap as most mid-range phones in the market, but it also has compelling hardware and features that aren’t available in other mid-range phones like Optical Image Stabilization for video recording. It’s a cheap 5G smartphone with Snapdragon 765G SoC and a gorgeous 90Hz AMOLED display with a pinch-hole dual selfie combo. The phone will go on sale starting August 4 in India and Europe. For now, the device is only in the hands of some YouTubers and Influencers, but the company is rolling out the first-ever software update for the handset. It brings improvements to the camera’s performance.

OnePlus Nord shines with a powerful camera setup

The handset ships with a Quad-Camera setup comprising a main 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor with f/1.75 aperture and support for Nightscape. The secondary sensor is an 8MP shooter for ultra-wide shots with a 119º field of view. There’s a 5MP for macro shots with a 1.5-inch sensor and last but not least, a 2MP shooter for depth sensing. The company uses AI technology to ensure better image quality and there are OIS and EIS. Moreover, night shots are greatly improved.

The first software update for the handset brings improvements for this camera setup. The OnePlus Nord cut some corners with a €399 / £379 / ₹24,999 price tag, but the camera certainly will impress.

According to the screenshot shared by the teenager tipster Ishan Agarwal, the first update coming for the OnePlus Nord boasts build number OxygenOS 10.5.1AC01DA for the Indian unit. The update is quite small with a 102MB size. As previously said it’s all about software optimizations for camera-related stuff. It also improves the indoor image quality.

OnePlus is one of the smartphone companies giving the best software support in the industry. Thankfully, the OnePlus Nord will not be an exception. According to the firm, this phone will receive two major Android updates. That includes Android 11 and the future OnePlus 12 update. When it comes to security patches, the company will be rolling them for three months.
