The OnePlus Nord fails and cracks during bend test

Back in the last week, OnePlus finally unveiled its first mid-range smartphone in years – The OnePlus Nord. The new device is cheaper than the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro, but include some interesting features like OIS. Of course, to achieve this affordability, the company had to make some compromises with materials and components. For example, we have the less capable Snapdragon 765G SoC, no telephoto camera, and a plastic frame.

Worth noting that the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro came with a metal frame, hence, having better durability. To put things on perspective, the well-known JerryRigEverything has put the OnePlus Nord in a routine test to see how the OnePlus Nord can stand. Can you guess how the phone performed with its plastic frame? Well, it cracked right in the region of the volume rocker. We know that these bend tests don’t really reflect real-life scenarios. However, this is a kind of damage that can happen if you keep the device in your back pocket. Despite the fragility, the device achieved Level 6 scratch resistance. The remaining details are available on the influencer’s video.

Under the hood, the phone boasts the excellent Snapdragon 765G SoC. It is paired with 6GB, 8GB, and even 12GB of RAM. Storage-wise, it is split between variants with 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB variants. The storage is UFS 2.1, and since this is an OnePlus phone the microSD card slot is absent. The phone has a Quad-Camera setup led by a 48MP main shooter. While there is no telephoto/periscope module for super zoom capabilities, the phone ships with Optical Image Stabilization which is a plus on this price range. Other features include NFC, in-display fingerprint scanner, and dual SIM support. Lights are kept by a 4,115mAh battery and Android 10 is running below OxygenOS build.
