Oppo is gearing up to reveal the Oppo Reno 4 Pro in India on July 31. The new smartphone will be different from the Chinese version in several ways. Perhaps, it’s more different than we expect and in a disappointing way. After all, it will come with the Snapdragon 720G SoC. Don’t take me wrong, this is a good chipset with two Cortex-A75 cores. However, it still sits behind the Snapdragon 765G which also is a 5G-enabled system-on-chip. Apparently, Oppo doesn’t want to launch a smartphone with the 5G chip in India one time that there’s no 5G network in the country. Unfortunately, costumers will not have the chance to buy a Reno4 smartphone that will be ready for the new network once it gets deployed.
We already saw a couple of leaked renders showing the smartphone’s design. Now, the price has leaked and it may scare the customer that is used with the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Pro Max prices. These smartphones share similar specifications. The Reno 4 Pro 4G will be priced around INR 32,990 in the country, that’s just over $440. For that price, you get the 8GB of RAM with 128GB of storage variant. To put things on perspective, the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max which comes with the same Snapdragon 720G is priced below $267 in the country. Even the recently released OnePlus Nord is cheaper and it reaches India with the chipset that Oppo neglected, the Snapdragon 765G.

Too expensive for a non-5G smartphone
The Reno4 Pro still is better than the Redmi Note 9 series with a curved Super AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. Moreover, the phone ships with 65W fast-charging that is twice what the Note 9 Pro Max can offer. According to the leakster, the new mid-range phones will be targeting the Vivo X50 and Samsung A71s. The first reached India with an 8GB of RAM / 128GB storage configuration and costs $465. That’s a little more than what Oppo will ask for the Reno 4 Pro. However, once again, the Vivo X50 comes with the Snapdragon 765G SoC which effectively makes it a more future-proof smartphone. It also has a 90Hz AMOLED display.
We don’t see the big point of getting the Reno 4 Pro in India when you have better offers like the upcoming OnePlus Nord that sells at INR 27,999 for the 8GB RAM and 128GB version.
Well, well, well . . . with this price, how can I send a Oppo Reno 10x Zoom as a gift to a friend of me in Manila, Philipines? Thanks.
