OnePlus currently sits as one of the most reliable companies when it comes to getting software support on their smartphones. The company has a good track record providing faster updates for its most recent smartphones. However, this doesn’t mean that old devices are left behind. Apart from the 2016’s OnePlus 3/3T duo, the company provided an update for the OnePlus 5 duo from 2017. Now, the company is starting to move its focus to Android 11 and the OxygenOS version based on it. Today, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau took to Twitter to tease the upcoming version of Android.
The post reveals a clock with the hour hand pointing at 11. This is clearly enough a teaser for the planned Android 11 update that the more recent OnePlus phones will receive. Just like OnePlus did last year with OxygenOS 10, we believe that this year’s version will follow the Android name scheme and will be dubbed OxygenOS 11. Apart from the Android 11 teaser, there is some speculation flowing through the web.

Always mode to finally hit OnePlus phones
Some users are wondering about the fact that OnePlus used a clock to tease the upcoming version of Android. Apparently, this is a nod at an upcoming Always On feature. However, this doesn’t mean that this upcoming feature will reach older devices. At the first moment, we believe that the company will fully prioritize the recently released OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro. Or, in the worst-case scenario, the company could make Always On Display something exclusive for the upcoming OnePlus 8T series. But there’s just a small chance that will happen. This is a feature that OnePlus has neglected for a long time. The same happened with wireless charging and water resistance ratings, the situation is different now right?
We’re also waiting to see how fast the recently released OnePlus Nord will be updated to Android 11. It’s a 2020 phone and, hopefully, it will not be put aside. We expect to see all 2020 phones running Android 11 until the end of this year. The OnePlus 7 and 7T series might receive earlier in the next year, while the OnePlus 6 and 6T should receive it towards Q2 next year.
The OnePlus 8T is already being tested
Since we’re talking about the OnePlus 8T series. We got the first clue that the company is already testing the upcoming smartphone. The alleged OnePlus 8T was spotted at GeeBench running Android 11. The handset carries the chipset “Kona” which stands for the Snapdragon 865 SoC. It’s impossible to state if this is the vanilla or the Plus variant of the chipset. We expect the OnePlus 8T phones to use the Plus variant. The RAM capacity of the leaked model has 8GB of RAM.
