Xiaomi announced the MIUI 12 update in late April. Since then the company has been working hard to ensure that most of its phones will be running the latest software build until the end of 2020. The company is also taking the opportunity to roll out major Android updates to run below the new MIUI 12 branch. We have to say that Xiaomi’s update schedule is a little weird since it is updating some low-end phones before high-end and mid-range models. The Redmi 7A already received Android 10, and now it’s time for the second last year’s budget phone, the Redmi 8A to get the same treatment. While the Chinese variant got this update a long time ago, the international variants weren’t running the latest version. It changes now as the phone is finally getting Android 10.
Redmi 8A gets Android 10, but not MIUI 12
Those are exciting news for the Redmi 8A fans, the only problem is that this update is based on MIUI 11. If you’re not holding your breath for MIUI 12, then, it’s not something to concern. Moreover, Xiaomi will eventually roll out MIUI 12 for the budget smartphone. It’s amazing that will be running a more updated Android build than Pie. Below you can check which are the regions getting the update along with their respective build numbers.
Gizchina News of the week
Region | Build Number |
China | V11.0.2.0.QCPCNXM |
Global | V11.0.1.0.QCPMIXM |
India | V11.0.1.0.QCPINXM |
EEA (Europe) | V11.0.1.0.QCPEUXM |
Russia | V11.0.1.0.QCPRUXM |
The Chinese variant of the smartphone received Android 10 last month with July 2020 security patch. The Global edition also got the same security patch as the update rolled out early this month. Now, the remaining Redmi 8A units are receiving Android 10 with the latest August 2020 security patch which definitively is a plus. For now, users can get satisfied with all the smoothness of Android 10 although it doesn’t really matter when MIUI is the real software dictating the rules and available features.
Worth noting, that the Redmi 8A probably won’t get Android 11. Devices of Xiaomi’s low-budget lineup aren’t eligible for more than one major software update. It should keep receiving future MIUI updates like MIUI 13, but next builds will all be based on Android 10.
The Redmi 8A recently got replaced with the release of Redmi 9A. However, it still fits adequately in some user’s tastes. The device was the first Redmi A smartphone to ship with a waterdrop notch and a 5,000mAh battery with USB-C port. Unfortunately, its successor returned to the micro USB standard.
