HMD Global is a very peculiar company when it comes to the names of its smartphones. After all, the company started with the numbered updates for its smartphones. Nokia 6, 6.1, 6.2 this kind of name often resemble software updates. When it comes to the actual codenames of smartphones, it seems that HMD is a fan of Marvel. After having one of its “.4” smartphones named Wolverine, a new Marvel character smartphone appeared with the Doctor Strange codename. The device appeared on the GeekBench database and might reach the market with Nokia 3.4 moniker.
Interestingly enough, Nokia 3.4, or Nokia Doctor Strange appeared on the popular benchmarking platform with a Snapdragon 460. It’s Qualcomm’s new offering for low-end smartphones and it’s a high jump over past chipsets. The results are quite similar with those of the Vivo Y20, another phone equipped with this chipset.
Gizchina News of the week
Interestingly enough, the Snapdragon 460 is close to the Snapdragon 662, with the latter having a slightly superior clock speed. Hence, faster than its 4xx series sibling. The new chip brings four Cortex-A73 cores to the game which delivers excellent performance to the Nokia 3.4. In fact, it’s much superior to the performance offered by its Nokia 2.4 sibling. The Nokia 2.4 ships with Helio P22 an Octa-Core chip with eight Cortex-A53 cores. The Nokia 3.4 with SD460 scored 252 points in the Single-Core tests and 1,259 Points on the Multi-Core department. The upcoming device passed through Geekbench with 3GB of RAM and Android 10 in tow.
The new handset may be revealed at IFA 2020
The new smartphone is expected to go official with the Nokia 2.4, Nokia 6.3, and Nokia 7.3 on IFA 2020 which starts on September 3. HMD Global has suffered a great impact from the COVID-19 pandemic since had to postpone several of its launches. While the company is almost ready to unveil its new low-end and mid-range phones, we’re eagerly waiting for more news regarding its flagship, the Nokia 9.3 PureView.
Apart from the GeekBench listing, we still don’t have many details about the new smartphone. Unfortunately, we also don’t know what the phone will look like and we do not have an exact date of launch. Worth noting that IFA 2020 will mark the global debut of the handset. However, we expect a separate event for the Indian market. After all, HMD already confirmed the launch of the Nokia 5.3 in the country along with two new affordable phones. Perhaps, Nokia 3.4 is one of these devices.
