Sony has unveiled an improved version of its flagship Xperia 1 II smartphone in Japan.
The Xperia 1 II, which debuted in February and has gone on sale in many regions of the world, including Japan, has only 8GB of RAM. The new version, presented today, received 12 GB of RAM. Besides the increased amount of RAM, the smartphone is available in a new color – Frosted Black (matte black).
Sony is going to sell the new version of the Xperia 1 II without being tied to the operator, while so far the Sony flagship was available to the Japanese only through two local telecom giants – NTT docomo and au KDDI.
The Xperia 1 II version with 12 GB of RAM and model number XQ-AT42 will not go on sale soon – October 30, 2020. The price is $1170.
At the moment, the regular version of the Xperia 1 II with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of flash memory is offered in glossy black at a suggested retail price of $1,199.

Xperia smartphones will bring Sony a profit for the first time in 4 years
Many have already stopped following Sony’s mobile business news. However, Sony itself believes in a renaissance and is heading towards cost optimization and trying to build a new team.
During its last report on the results of the second quarter of this year, the company announced the delivery of 800 thousand Xperia smartphones. This is 100 thousand less than a year earlier, but twice as much as in the first quarter of 2020. Given the market crisis and falling demand amid the coronavirus pandemic, Sony’s result can be considered a success.
Encouraged by what is happening, the company said that the company’s mobile business will bring profit for the first time in four years based on the results of operations from April 2020 to March 2021. Of the interesting things, it is worth noting that the company associates its short-term future with budget and mid-range smartphones.
