Smartphone manufacturers are in constant search of original ideas. One of them is to “bend” mobile devices. Foldable devices with flexible panels are a new direction that several companies want to develop. But flex-screen technology and foldable smartphones have one significant drawback – the high price.
The high cost can be explained by the fact that it took several years of research and development to develop it. And they also had to spend a lot to establish the release of such solutions. For example, Huawei previously announced that it spent $ 60-70 million on the release of the Mate X.
Samsung is planning to launch a budget foldable smartphone
But over time, as folding devices become more and more popular, the cost of manufacturing folding devices will decline. And with it, the price tags will creep down. But Samsung is already thinking about making foldable devices more affordable and widespread.
The South Korean giant is reportedly developing a “budget” foldable smartphone. All that is known about it is that its model number is SM-F415, it will be available with 64/128 GB of storage memory and in three colors: blue, green and black. It is expected that the price tag will be significantly below $1000 and the focus will be on the price of $600-700.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2
It is worth to mention that recently, at the Samsung Unpacked event, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 was officially revealed. In fact, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 got improvements in all aspects. When looking at the first generation of Samsung’s foldable smartphones, we were thinking these technology and form factor are not mature. But now, when we get our hands on the second-gen model, we understand many people will consider embracing the foldable experience.
The 4.6-inch display is now replaced by a 6.2-inch punch-hole display. It occupies the entire front panel. On the opposite side, we can find an elegantly-looking camera module, which has three sensors.
However, what makes the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 look so amazing is the 7.7-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2213×1689 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. Thus, its diagonal is 0.4 inches longer than that of what we have found on the previous model. But what is more worthy of our attention is the aspect ratio, which is closer to a square. In other words, the bottom side is longer. Well, if putting simply, the screen is 13.5% larger than the older one.
Apart from these changes, the company has removed those ugly bangs. Now, there’s a tiny hole for the camera. It can be used for any purpose from conference calls to taking selfies.
If you still worry about the durability of the screen, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is proven to come with a stronger display. Plus, it comes with an ultra-thin layer of glass for extra rigidity.
So if summarizing the design improvements, we should say this model looks way more attractive.
