With the announcement of macOS Big Sur during Apple’s WWDC 2020, the company made clear one of its plans for the future – Ditch Intel chipsets in favor of an in-house made ARM chipset. The new software came with seamless support for ARM chipsets and several tools allowing users to port their applications for the new platforms. Moreover, the new OS brings support for iOS/iPadOS apps. The company promised the first MacBooks to come with ARM chipsets later in 2020. Now, the first reports about these products are starting to emerge. According to a report, the upcoming 12-inch MacBook will be the first laptop to use Apple’s ARM CPU.
The report comes from people working in Apple’s supply chain. According to the report, the 12-inch MacBook will make a comeback this year with Apple’s brand new ARM-based chip. It makes sense for the 12-inch MacBook to be the first of its kind since it was driven by Intel’s low-powered Core Y-series chip.
