Earlier, Samsung announced plans to mass-produce 16-gigabit LPDDR5 RAM chips using a third-generation 10nm 1z-class manufacturing process.
The company has confirmed that it has opened a new production line at its Pyeongtaek facility in Korea to begin mass production of the new RAM. According to Jung-bae Lee, executive vice president of DRAM products and technologies, the memory will open new doors for smartphone developers and manufacturers.
The new memory, according to Samsung, will offer the fastest speed and maximum capacity ever. Samsung says the new LPDDR5 memory will transfer data at 6400Mbps, which is 16% faster than the Galaxy Note 20’s LPDDR5 memory.
The body of the new memory will be 30% thinner, which means that it takes up less space in the smartphone. Such memory is expected to debut in the Samsung Galaxy S21 (S30), and will also appear in flagship smartphones from other manufacturers. Samsung has already confirmed that it will not be limited to using this memory only in its phones.
It is worth to mention that recently, the company has revealed the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra smartphones, and here is a reminder of their specifications.
