Samsung Pay Card now available in South Korea!

After launching the Samsung Pay Card in the UK, the South Korean giant has now launched the new digital payment solution in its homeland as well. For the country, the chaebol has collaborated with Samsung Card and MasterCard. As you might have guessed already, it is a physical card that brings a bunch of benefits to the Samsung Pay users. With the new solution, the company claims to offer a secure way to pay digitally.

Since the official announcement in June, Samsung is expanding its Pay Card service to major regions. To recall, the users will be able to check card details, manage payments, see discounts, and much more inside the app itself.  You can even make international payments which you can block if you want to. Samsung is offering international payments in stores around the world with, of course, NFC terminals.

Coming to the benefits, we’re looking at a 1% discount on the purchases made using offline stores. The purchases on online websites, on the other hand, will give you a 1.5% discount. Since the service is newly launched, the chaebol is offering small limited period benefits as well. For instance, you will get an additional 0.5% discount for Samsung Pay payments until December 31. For online shopping websites, there will be a 2% discount on the purchases. You can even earn a 3% discount on payments made on the Samsung Pay coupon shop. Lastly, we’re looking at a 2% discount for postpaid transportation payments.

Surprisingly, the chaebol is also offering a 5% discount on international transactions but the discount is limited to KRW 100,000 per month.

More than 19 million users!

While launching the Samsung Pay card in South Korea, the brand also revealed some interesting stats for its newly announced service. The brand claims that the service currently has 19 million users. Furthermore, around KRW 80 trillion worth of transactions are made as of August 2020.

In order to apply, you need to head over to the Samsung Pay app on your Galaxy smartphone and tap on the banner or Samsung Pay Card Starter card. You need to complete the registration process. The entire application process is quite simple. With that said, it would be interesting to which more markets or regions the Pay Card will make its way next.
