As the smartphone manufacturing industry continues to evolve, there is a quest for breakthrough technology. One aspect of a smartphone that has seen tremendous upgrades in recent times is the display. In order to achieve a full-screen display, we have seen so many solutions. The notch design, tri-bezeless design, pop-up camera, punch-hole camera, sliding display, and more all aim at the same result – to get a true full-screen display. However, the industry is now taking a step forward. Just like the under-screen fingerprint sensor, we will soon have an under-display camera solution. Chinese manufacturer, Xiaomi is working on this solution and we may have it in the Xiaomi Mi 11.

Just last week, Xiaomi demonstrated the third-generation under-screen camera technology. This generation is already at the mass production / commercial stage. However, it will go commercial next year. Due to its breakthrough with the under-screen camera technology, there are speculations that Xiaomi’s next flagship will adopt this technology.

Xiaomi digital or MIX series – which will use the under-display technology?

Obviously, if it uses this technology, it will help the phone to achieve a true full-screen design. According to popular Weibo leakster, @数码闲聊站 a new smartphone in the Xiaomi digital series uses a small-aperture punch-hole solution. As of now, the exact model to use the under-screen technology can not be ascertained.

Gizchina News of the week

By convention, Xiaomi’s next flagship in the digital series will be the Xiaomi Mi 11 or Xiaomi Mi 20. Presently, it has two screen options – a true full screen or a small punch-hole display. According to @数码闲聊站, the Xiaomi phone with a small punch-hole solution already has an engineering model. This suggests that the mass production of this device will use the same solution.

There are also speculations that the Xiaomi MIX may be the first to use under-screen camera technology. Since the release of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3, Xiaomi has not upgraded its MIX series. Of course, we can not consider the Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha as an upgrade in the series. According to Xiaomi, it needs the ultimate design and experience for the next MIX series phone.

As the best solution for realizing a true full screen, the under-screen camera may come with a new MIX series phone. The digital series may continue to use the punch-hole solution. As usual, Xiaomi Mi 11 will be the first commercial model of Qualcomm’s new platform Snapdragon 875. This smartphone will officially debut in Q1 2021.
