Back in May this year, LG unveiled the LG Velvet as its replacement for this year’s LG G-series. The new smartphone came to be a massive refreshment in the company’s well-known flagship series. Well, the biggest difference is that the LG Velvet leaves the flagship pedigree behind in favor of the mid-range 5G chipset – Snapdragon 765G. When it arrived the device was quite expensive and not all customers were pleased with the choice of this chipset. Now, LG is trying to address this issue with a new T-Mobile’s variant of the LG Velvet that makes use of the, now official, MediaTek Dimensity 1000C SoC.
“From the world’s first standalone 5G data call to collaborating on their first 5G chipset in America, T-Mobile and MediaTek have partnered to move 5G innovation forward,” said Ryan Sullivan, VP of Product Development at T-Mobile. “This is another step towards #5GforAll on America’s largest nationwide 5G network.”
The MediaTek Dimensity 1000C is a brand new chipset that makes part of the 5G Dimensity 1000 family. It’s quite confusing to follow all these releases, we already have vanilla 1000, 1000L, and 1000+. The new chipset packs four Arm-Cortex-A77 CPU cores and four power-efficient Arm Cortex-A55 cores operating up to 2GHz.
Gizchina News of the week
“Compared to other parts of the world, consumers in the U.S. haven’t had much choice on the chipset side when it comes to 5G smartphones.” – Dr. Yenchi Lee, Deputy General Manager of MediaTek’s Wireless Communications Business Unit. “MediaTek is focused on giving consumers more options and expanding access to 5G devices. As a result, everyone can enjoy the premium features and speeds that are defining the next era of mobile computing.”
The graphical tasks are ensured by a Mali-G57 MC5 GPU. Moreover it comes with seamless 5G connectivity and also it’s the first MediaTek’s Dimensity chip to support dual-display technology. This is an important characteristic for it to power the LG Velvet with its Dual-Screen Accessory case.
One of the most exciting facts is that the LG Velvet with 1000C now becomes the first Dimensity smartphone to appear outside of China. So far, MediaTek and its partners are focusing only on the Chinese market. With the arrival of Velvet and the end of Q3, we’ll probably see more Dimensity-powered phones dropping in the west.
According to T-Mobile, its LG Velvet brings support for 600MHz and 2.5GHz Sub-6 5G networks. Apart from the chipset, the phone also comes with a different battery capacity of 4,000mAh. The Global variant with the Snapdragon 765G comes with a 4,300mAh battery.
The Network carrier will be selling the handset in Aurora Gray and Pink White colors on September 10. LG sells the phone at a full price of $588. However, you can pick it up on T-Mobile in 24 monthly installments of $24.50.
