Besides the much-awaited announcement of the new Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 at the “Life Unstoppable” virtual event; Samsung announced a whole lot of new devices including the Galaxy Tab A7, the Galaxy Fit 2, the Galaxy A42 5G – the cheapest 5G smartphone from Samsung and more. The Galaxy A42 5G is Samsung’s latest smartphone to the A-series. As of now, the all-new Samsung Galaxy A42 will be a 5G and might be the cheapest 5G device to date in Samsung’s portfolio.
While Samsung has not revealed the complete specifications of the device including the pricing and availability; it has confirmed a few of the key specifications of the Samsung Galaxy A42 5G. Samsung has shown a glimpse of the upcoming Galaxy A42 5G during the event; so we do now have an idea on how the smartphone may look like. Flipping the phone apart, there is a quad-rear camera setup and an edge-to-edge display with a water-drop notch.
Samsung Galaxy A42 5G Specifications
Moving on to the specifications of the device, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy A42 5G; will flaunt a large 6.6-inch AMOLED display with a waterdrop notch on the front to house front selfie camera. While Samsung has not put out the resolution, pixel density and other specifications regarding the display; but we do expect it to be an FHD+ panel. Additionally, we do expect it to pack in an in-display fingerprint sensor as it is nowhere visible in the official images.

While, Samsung has not revealed the chipset powering the device, the device had earlier appeared on Geekbench 5 database; revealing a score of 615 points in the single-core test and 1799 in the multi-core test. Going by the scores, it Samsung Galaxy A42 5G will be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 5G; coupled with Adreno 619 GPU. However, the Geekbench listing had also revealed 4GB’s of RAM; but we could expect the smartphone to be offered in RAM variants too when launched.
On the rear, The Samsung Galaxy A42 5G packs in a quad-rear camera setup with a squircle camera module, and the exact details of the camera sensors is still unknown, at least for now. The certification information had earlier revealed the appearance of a 5000mAh battery with fast charging support. Comparable to most other Samsung Galaxy devices, the handset will run Android 10 with OneUI skin on top.
The device has already passed the BIS certification in India a couple of months back, so its India launch is definitely on the list
