Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) is the largest chip foundry in China. This company was Huawei’s hope for entry-level Kirin chips. However, the new U.S. ban also includes SMIC. Apparently, SMIC makes use of American technology and it can not use this tech to work for Huawei without permission from the U.S. government.
Today is the deadline for the Huawei ban. This means that after today, companies using American technology can not work with Huawei without permission. According to a recent report, SIMC is trying to obtain the necessary permissions from the U.S. The Chinese foundry has applied to the US to continue to supply Huawei in accordance with regulations. It reiterated that it will strictly abide by the laws and regulations of relevant countries and regions.

Earlier media reports indicate that Huawei is looking for alternatives, which may be “dimension reduction” from high-end mobile phones to cars, OLED screen drivers, etc., with software and mobile phone peripheral products. Therefore, SMIC’s foundry technology meets the relevant requirements.
Today (September 15) is the first day that the United States began to implement a comprehensive “cut off” of Huawei. Beginning today, TSMC, Samsung, SK Hynix, and other manufacturers will also stop supplying Huawei in accordance with the ban.
TSMC, Qualcomm, MediaTek, Sanan Integration, Samsung Display, SK Hynix, etc. have already submitted license applications. However, the US Department of Commerce has not issued any company the Huawei Supply license.
