After a number of reports about Vivo Y51, the company finally disclosed the new mid-range smartphone. If you’ve been living in this world of Chinese smartphones for quite a time, you probably know that Vivo already released a Y51 smartphone. It was a mid-range smartphone for 2015 standards packing a Snapdragon 410 chipset. Now, Vivo decided to bring this smartphone series back to life giving some refreshed 2020 specifications like a Quad-Camera array and a modern Octa-Core chipset. Without further ado, let’s dive into the specifications of this new mid-range device.
Vivo Y51 (2020) specifications
The company does not name the new handset Vivo Y51 (2020). We are adding the year just to avoid confusion with the 2015 model. That said, the new handset ships with a 6.38-inch FHD+ AMOLED display and a waterdrop notch at the top serving as a house for a 16MP snapper. Worth noting that since this is an AMOLED panel, Vivo was kind enough to equip it with a in-display fingerprint scanner. Unfortunately, this kind of biometric sensor still is rare on mid-range phones. Not everything is perfect, and the display operates with a 60Hz refresh rate.
Gizchina News of the week
The rear camera department is covered by a Quad-Camera sensor. Instead of a square-ish or circular setup, the Chinese firm brings back its traditional diamond-shaped plate. It’s very unique and we can’t argue about that. After all, having the same design in a dozen smartphones can turn all them quite boring. The Vivo Y51 packs a 48MP primary sensor, 8MP ultra-wide, 2MP macro and 2MP depth sensor. The camera setup is completed with a LED flash and a text that says “Camera & Music”. That’s basically for what the Vivo Y51 stands for, a device for capturing images and listening / watching media content. However, it still has more than capable specifications.
Under the hood, the handset ships with the Snapdragon 665 SoC an Octa-Core CPU with 2.6GHz, and is paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of Internal Storage. The graphical tasks are ensured by the Adreno 610 GPU. This still is a decent chipset for mid-range performance and can run some intense games like PUBG and COD without any hassle. Of course, you’ll have some limited graphics and frame rates here and there. The handset draws power from a 4,500mAh battery that charges via a USB-C port offering up to 18 Watts of charging.
Pricing and Availability
The new smartphone comes in three distinct colorways. Namely, we have Mystic Black, Jazzy Blue and Dreamy White colors. For now, it’s only available in Pakistan for a PKR36,999 price tag ($220/€190). It will be up for pre-orders until September 18. The actual sales will start one day after on September 19.
