One of the major selling points of Xiaomi as a smartphone brand is its regular release of software updates. Xiaomi does not just release regular updates, it also releases updates for very old devices. According to recent reports, the Xiaomi Mi Note 3 and Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite are now getting MIUI 12 updates. These devices first got this update in China last month. However, the company is now releasing this update globally.

These smartphones have received two Android/MIUI updates and are currently running MIUI 11. While the Xiaomi Mi Note 3 is on MIUI 11 on top of Android Pie, the Mi Note 8 Lite is on  MIUI 11 on top of Android 10. Apparently, these devices are now getting the MIUI 12 update on top of Android 10.

The MIUI 12 update for Mi Note 3 comes with the internal version number V12.0.1.0.PCHMIXM. As for the Mi 8 Lite, it comes with the build number V12.0.3.0.QDTMIXM. They are currently being rolled out in batches, and if early adopters do not encounter any major problems, they should be rolled out to all devices.

It’s great to see Xiaomi provide updates for its older mid-range smartphones. Unfortunately, because the company’s software deployment has been declining over the years, its latest equipment cannot say the same. Xiaomi Mi Note 3 was launched in 2017, while Mi 8 Lite debuted in 2018. However, they all work with MIUI 9 out of the box but with Android Nougat and Android Ore respectively.
