The market of smartwatches took its time but is finally trending among overall customers. One of the reasons is that they’re finally bringing features that are useful for all users and not just a specific niche. Moreover, the addition of health-centric features like ECG and Blood-Oxygen levels are really making wearables more useful in these days plagued by COVID-19. Samsung is one of the companies currently betting on the ECG feature, however, rolling a feature like this one is more complicated than it seems. After all, it requires several approvals before entering a country. Sometimes the company opts for launching the wearable with the sensor disabled until it receives that country’s specific approval. This is the case of the Galaxy Watch3 and the Galaxy Watch Active2.
ECG readings finally available for the Galaxy Watch Active2 and Watch 3
The Galaxy Watch3 was announced earlier in August during Samsung’s unpacked event, while the Galaxy Watch Active2 is available since the last year. Both smartwatches bring the necessary hardware for accurate electrocardiogram readings. However, this feature was not available in the United States one time that it needed regulatory approval. For the Galaxy Watch3, we can’t complain since the device has less than two months. However, it’s a shame to see that the Watch Active2 users had to pass one year without this feature. Samsung activated the ECG feature on the Active2 last month in South Korea, and now is enabling it for United States users. The same is happening with the recently released model.
Gizchina News of the week
Users in the Uncle Sam country will be able to monitor their ECG readings through the ECG monitor App. However, they’ll also need to install Samsung’s Health Monitor application on the paired smartphone. Any Galaxy smartphone running Android 7 or above will be compatible with the application. Users experiencing some bad symptoms can record ECG tracking and send them to healthcare providers via Samsung’s health app.
This certainly is a big addition to the Galaxy Watch Active. After all, it brings new fresh air for the last year’s smartwatch. For the Galaxy Watch3, this comes as a new attractive feature for all potential buyers. The 2020 Galaxy Watch iteration is performing well across the markets where it is available. Once again, it shows how the market for these products is trending in 2020.
