Oppo is one of the most traditional Chinese smartphone makers and during the past years has greatly expanded its business outside of China. The company always had a good presence in its homeland, but with Realme advent, it found the right way to become a popular brand across global markets. With its presence pretty much established in Europe and India, the company is now moving to South Africa. The first device reaching the country will be the Oppo A72. After the A72, the company will introduce the A15 and Oppo A53.
As you can see, the company will start with competitive mid-range smartphones but will offer more than just cost-effective phones. In the second quarter of 2021, the company will unveil a new flagship smartphone there. It probably will be a new smartphone and not one of the currently existing ones. As per the Oppo A72, we expect the 4G variant as there’s still no 5G network operating in South-Africa.
OPPO A72 SPECIFICATIONS
The Oppo A72 is powered by the Snapdragon 665 chipset just like its A52 sibling and also has 4GB of RAM along with 128GB of storage. The specifications are built around a 6.5-inch display with FHD+ resolution. Moreover, this panel boasts a punch-hole that serves as a house for the 16MP selfie snapper.
Moving around to the back, we have a Quad-camera setup comprising a main 48MP shooter, an 8MP ultrawide, 2MP macro, and a 2MP depth modules. Apart from the cameras, the rear is quite clean since the fingerprint scanner is placed at the side. The handset sports a 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom along with a USB-C port.
On the software front, we have Android 10-based ColorOS 7.1. The handset draws power from a beefy 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast-charging. Unfortunately, there are still no details regarding the price of this variant. But it should cost a little more than the A52 which is priced at €210 across global markets.
Pricing and Availability in South-Africa
We are curious to see how much the device will cost in South-Africa. While the information is scarce at this point, Oppo will make an official announcement on October 7. Only then, we will know the actual price of this handset in South-Africa. The other two mid-range phones should hit the market until the end of 2021 or in the first quarter of 2021.
