US Judge: Postpone the TikTok ban or appear in court on Friday

TikTok: This the Company's Official Statement Following the Ban

The tussle for the survival of TikTok in the U.S. is still on and there are a couple of lawsuits in U.S. courts. Presently, relevant authorities in the U.S. and China are looking into the proposal by TikTok and some American companies. However, if there is no meaningful conclusion, the TikTok download ban will commence at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday. TikTok has now taken the American government to court to try to halt the ban. Interestingly, it appears that the Chinese company will get what it needs.

According to recent reports, a federal judge has given the U.S. government until Friday to postpone the ban. Alternatively, the American government can appear in court this week to defend the ban. U.S. District Judge, Carl Nichols, said the government must respond to TikTok’s preliminary injunction or postpone the relevant injunction.

TikTok has a deal with Oracle which the U.S. government technically accepts

According to recent reports, the U.S. President stated that he has “in principle” agreed to the solution received by the U.S. government regarding TikTok. The program does not involve technology and algorithm transfer. “I have already expressed my blessing to this deal…I agreed to this deal in principle”, Trump told reporters when he left the White House yesterday for a campaign rally in Fayetteville, New Carolina. However, it appears that this acceptance “in principle” will allow US users to continue to use the Chinese short video app. Nevertheless, there is still a need for a final and formal agreement of all parties.

Oracle has since confirmed that it has an agreement with TikTok which is subject to the U.S. government’s approval. The deal does not involve selling TikTok and no royalty will be paid to the U.S. government. Nevertheless, Oracle will be in charge of American user’s data. This solves the issue of security risks as expressed by the American government.

TikTok’s headquarters will remain in the United States, and Oracle will become TikTok’s partner in data security compliance. The latter will provide cloud architecture services for U.S. users. TikTok will not transfer its technology or algorithm to Oracle. According to TikTok, it will create over 25,000 jobs in the next few years to support rapid business development. The company claims that it will not only “make money”, it will also integrate into American society. This seems like a good deal that addresses the concerns of the American government.
