While Samsung has pretty much the foldable smartphone segment under its belt, Motorola is there with its Motorola RAZR 5G is there trying to catch a good portion of the market thanks to its nostalgic appeal. The device reached China a couple of weeks ago and during and gone out of stock just two minutes after the sales started. Motorola is keen that the new device will be a hit, and is trying to build hype for a new special edition of the handset in partnership with Montblanc.
For those unaware, Montblanc is a German luxury good manufacturer. The Hamburg-based company makes a number of products including watches, bangs, headphones and etc. Recently, Lenovo (the owner of Motorola) listed the Motorola RAZR 5G Montblanc Special Edition, however, it does not reveal any particular info about the handset apart from a retail box. The package is large and features both Motorola and Montblanc’s logo on top of it. The specification of this phone may not differ too much from the original variant. However, we expect it to feature a distinct design with Montblanc’s logos here and there, special wallpaper, and some luxury accessories coming in the retail box.
Gizchina News of the week
Motorola RAZR 5G specifications
The original handset sells for around CNY 12,499 (~$1830) and we know that it’s quite an expensive device. Especially for the specifications, it brings to the table. First of all, it runs with a mid-range 5G chipset, the premium mid-range segment favorite Snapdragon 765G SoC. The processing power is paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of Storage.
The foldable handset has an inner 6.2-inch flexible AMOLED panel with an unusual resolution of 2,142 x 876 pixels. The external display brings a 2.7-inch diagonal and serves as a viewfinder for some apps or capturing selfies. In terms of optics, the handset brings a powerful 48MP sensor with f/1.7 aperture. It is coupled with a 20MP f/2.2 selfie camera that is placed above the main screen.
The biggest downside of this phone comes from a mediocre battery life provided by the 2,800mAh power cell. Motorola still couldn’t find a way to equip a proper battery on this phone just like the Z Fold 2 and Z Flip phones. At least, it comes with fast-charging support. Other features include NFC, Bluetooth 5.1, rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, and Android 10 OS.
One time that the RAZR already is an expensive phone, we expect the special edition to only go higher. You can expect two times the original price at the very least.
