Due to U.S. sanctions, the Huawei Mate 40 series products did come in September as in previous years. However, they will come soon, this month. As time goes by, there are more and more leaks and official news about this line smartphones. Let’s find out what features and functions they will come with.
Three Models Of Huawei Mate 40
According to previous news, this time, the Huawei Mate 40 series will have three versions like the Huawei P40 series, namely Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro+. And unlike the previous curved screen only in the Pro version, this time, the Mate 40 series will abandon the straight screen. Thus, the whole line will adopt the curved screen design. But each of them will have different curvatures. Among them, the Mate 40 will adopt a curved screen design with a screen size of 6.67 inches and a refresh rate of 90Hz.
The Mate 40 Pro uses a ‘waterfall screen’ with a larger curvature. At the same time, the power button that was cut off on the Mate 30 series will return. The previous design without physical volume is a very good attempt. But in terms of actual experience, physical buttons are more convenient. There is no very precise news about its specific screen size. But from the previously leaked protective film, we can see that the Huawei Mate 40 Pro will be slightly longer than the Mate 40. It is expected to be about 6.8 inches. In terms of refresh rate, it was previously reported to be 90Hz. But we have also heard that will support 120Hz refresh rate.
The front design of the Mate 40 Pro+ should be consistent with the Pro version. The main difference will be the camera configuration.
Camera
This time, the Huawei Mate 40 series will also abandon the notch design of the previous generation and change to a hole-punch screen. The Mate 40 has a front single-camera, while the other two have two cameras. They are shaped like a ‘capsule’. It is worth noting that from the leaked renderings, the ‘capsule’ of the Mate 40 Pro will be slightly longer than that of many other phones. This was the case on the P40 Pro before. Huawei will also place the proximity light and ambient light sensors in this ‘capsule’ area.
In addition to the three types of models, Huawei will also bring a new Porsche design version. It is expected to incorporate the design elements of sports cars on the basis of the top configuration.
Gizchina News of the week
Triple-, Quad-, and Penta-Camera Modules
Photography is one of the most anticipated features of each generation of Huawei’s flagship products. Of course, the Huawei Mate 40 will not disappoint anyone. The Huawei Mate 40 will come with three camera sensor. They are a 50-megapixel main lens, a 20-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens. Its 50-megapixel main camera should be the same IMX700 as that of the Huawei P40 series. Its sensor size reaches 1/1.28 inches, unit pixels reach 1.22μm, and use RYYB array to further improve sensitivity.
The Huawei Mate 40 Pro will sport a quad-camera. It will consist of a 50-megapixel main camera, an 80-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, a periscope telephoto lens, and a ToF lens. The most noteworthy of these is the 80-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens. It replaces the previous 40MP cinema lens. But it will continue to strengthen the Huawei Mate 40 Pro in video shooting.
The Mate 40 Pro+ adds another lens to the camera system of the Mate 40 Pro. We think it may be a telephoto lens. It should be added to achieve a better zoom shooting experience.
Hardware And Charging
In terms of core configuration, the Huawei Mate 40 series will undoubtedly come with the Kirin 9000 processor. There is not much news about this processor. It is still very mysterious. We only know that it will use a 5nm process technology, and it is different from Apple A14 bionic chip. This SoC integrates the 5G baseband on the chip and is the industry’s first 5nm 5G SoC, which will have more powerful 5G capabilities, AI processing capabilities, and more powerful NPUs and GPUs. However, some sources said that the Kirin 9000 series will have two versions – the Kirin 9000 and the Kirin 9000E. The Kirin 9000E is a reduced frequency version. So the performance will be slightly worse. However, due to the US ban, TSMC will no longer be able to supply Huawei starting September 14. So the number of Kirin 9000 chips will be relatively limited, which is bound to have a certain impact on product sales.
In addition, we also learned that the Huawei Mate 40 series will support up to 66W super-fast charging. Fast charging may have an improvement of about 1.6 times. If it can be standard for all variants, it will be quite amazing.
Huawei Mate 40 Release Time
Based on the current news, the Huawei Mate 40 series is expected to be promoted during the National Day, and will be released globally on October 15, and then released in China on October 22, a week later. The pre-sales should go live simultaneously. The first batch of users will get this product at the end of October.
It is worth mentioning that the release time of the iPhone 12 series this year has also been pushed from September to October. We think it is October 13, which is basically adjacent to the release date of the Mate 40 series.
