A couple of days ago, OnePlus finally introduced its third 2020 flagship in the form of the OnePlus 8T. The handset was the single star of the show, as there will be no OnePlus 8T Pro, at least not this year. After the buzz of the release, the Chinese firm is rolling out the very first software update for the handset. Apart from being released recently, the handset already went on sale across the globe. Now the first adopters of the new flagship will be able to enjoy a new software update with several improvements and a new Canvas feature.

The new report was published by Peter Holden from Talk Android. According to him, the update bears OxygenOS 11.0.1.2.KB05BA serial and has 355MB in size. Users getting this update will get improvements for the Ambient Display feature. Battery life will also be enhanced by reduced power consumption. The camera is getting a new Nightscape Mode, White Balance accuracy and the overall stability has been greatly improved with this software update.

Interestingly enough, the new firmware update introduces a new feature dubbed Canvas that affects the wallpapers of the phone. The Wallpaper feature draws a wireframe image of a selected photo and allows you to use it as your lock screen wallpaper. It gives an interesting effect on some images. You can see some examples in the post published by Mr. Holden. Worth noting that OnePlus still considers Canvas an experimental feature, so it will be improved even further in the future.
OnePlus 8T specifications
Of course, this update is just the beginning of a very promising life with constant software support. The OnePlus 8T is the latest member of the OnePlus smartphone division and comes to be the “mid brother” in the 2020 flagship family. The handset comes with a 6.55-inch flat AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and a whopping 120Hz refresh rate. There’s a traditional punch-hole in the top left corner of the screen housing the 16MP selfie snapper. Under the hood, the phone brings the vanilla Snapdragon 865 chipset and it is paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of Internal Storage.
The phone brings an updated design language for the Quad-Camera setup, but instead of a 64MP shooter, we have a 48MP main camera. The handset has an in-display fingerprint scanner thanks to its AMOLED nature. On the software-front we have Android 11-based OxygenOS 11, it’s the first OnePlus phone to ship with this Android version. Also, it’s one of the few handsets to have Android 11 OS right now.
The icing on the cake of the OnePlus 8T is its 65W fast-charging. It’s the OnePlus phone with the fastest charging standard right now.
