The Popular Youtuber Arun Maini from the YouTube channel Mrwhosetheboss has recently tested the cameras of the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro, and in a new video, he tried to find out how long the new models’ battery lasts in comparison with the previous Apple smartphones launched in recent years.
It is important to note that the new iPhones have batteries with a smaller capacity than last year’s models. At the same time, they received a more energy-efficient A14 Bionic processor, made using a 5-nanometer process technology. As a result, Apple promises the same level of autonomy as in the 2019 models.
For the test, the Youtuber chooses the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro, iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max, iPhone XR and iPhone SE (2020). On all smartphones, he set the same brightness level and identical settings. He also made sure that all devices had 100% battery capacity.
The publisher of the video ran games, video playback, a camera, benchmarks and various applications on the smartphones. The first to drop out of the race was the iPhone SE (2020), having worked in an intensive mode for 3 hours 59 minutes. The iPhone XR was next to disconnect with a result of 4 hours 32 minutes. iPhone 11 lasted 5 hours 9 minutes. After 6 hours 34 minutes, the iPhone 12 Pro ran out of charge, and the regular iPhone 12 lasted a little longer – 6 hours 41 minutes. Almost an hour longer – 7 hours 36 minutes – the iPhone 11 Pro worked, and the winner with a score of 8 hours 29 minutes was the iPhone 11 Pro Max.

Thus, in reality, the regular iPhone 12 works longer than the 11th, but the iPhone 12 Pro is noticeably inferior to its predecessor.
Here is the amount of RAM and battery capacity of the iPhone 12 series
This is the battery capacity for the 2020 iPhone flagships:
- iPhone 12 mini – 2227 mAh
- iPhone 12 – 2851 mAh
- iPhone-12 Pro – 2815 mAh
- iPhone 12 Pro Max – 3687 mAh
In the case of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro Max, we are dealing with a downgrade. For comparison, the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro Max had 3,110mAh and 3,969mAh batteries, respectively. It seems that in terms of autonomy, Apple made a bet on the energy efficiency of the 5nm A14 Bionic chip.
If we talk about the amount of RAM, then the alignment of forces is as follows:
- iPhone 12 mini – 4 GB
- iPhone 12 — 4 GB
- iPhone-12 Pro — 6 GB
- iPhone 12 Pro Max — 6 GB.
It turns out that the two younger iPhone 12 models received the same amount of RAM as the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. But the older models have increased the amount of RAM to 6 GB. And let’s be objective that that much RAM is enough for the vast majority of tasks.
