With the arrival of NVIDIA’s RXT3000 series, the gaming graphic cards crossed a new milestone in terms of performance and power. Since the release, we have been waiting to see what would be AMD’s response with its Radeon lineup. The day has come and the chipset maker finally unveiled its Radeon RX6000 series of gaming graphics cards.
As expected, the Radeon RX6000 series brings cutting edge technology and power-efficiency thanks to its 7nm RDNA 2 architecture. The new graphics cards can provide up to 2 x improvement in performance over the previous AMD flagship generation. They also offer seamless support for Microsoft’s brand new DirectX 12 Ultimate API. The new graphics cards will be available in November.
RX 6800 XT – An outstanding technology for the ultimate gaming experience
The Radeon RX 6800 XT pushes the family with a $649 price tag. It brings 72 compute units and 16GB of GDDR6 memory on a 256-bit wide memory bus. The new graphic card can clock up to 2015MHz under load and can occasionally hit peaks of 2,250MHz for short durations under ideal conditions. AMD states that this card consumes a total board power of 300W.
The RX 6800 XT also brings 128MB of Infinity Cache. This technology trademarked by AMD basically is a high-density, high-speed cache based on the Zen L3 cache. The new cache is made to minimize DRAM bottlenecks, reduce latency, and power consumption. It will also help to optimize the 4K and 1440p resolutions. In combination with VRAM, AMD states that the Infinity Cache offers 2.17x bandwidth of a 384-bit wide GDDR6 memory.
Gizchina News of the week
The company took some graphics to the stage to compare the 6800 XT performance with NVIDIA RTX3080. Of course, these results can’t be taken as an undeniable truth. We need to wait for actual benchmarks provided by users.
Radeon RX 6800
The company also introduced the Radeon RX 6800 as a cheaper offering at a $579 price tag. While it’s a cheaper alternative it does not lose out on much when compared to its XT sister. The big difference here is on the CUs that have been reduced to 60 due to one of the shader engines being disabled. Moreover, the “Game Clock” also has been dropped to 1,815. The Boost Clock peak is 2,105MHz. Apart from these differences, users will still get the 16 GB 16Gbps GDDR6 memory and 128MB Infinity Cache. Its board power has also been dropped to 250W.
Radeon RX 6900 XT
The king here is the Radeon RX 6900 XT what we can call a graphics card for enthusiasts. It brings 80 compute units, but the remaining specifications are similar to the 6800 XT.
The big deal here is that it costs $999 and offers nearly the same performance as the $1,499 NVIDIA RTX 3090. According to the chart provided by AMD, it even surpasses its competitor.
Availability
The RX 6800 and 6800 XT will be available on November 18 for $579 and $659, respectively. The RX 6900 XT will be available only on December 8 for the aforementioned $999 price tag. AMD will keep its partnership with its usual board partners such as ASRock, ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, SAPPHIRE, and XFX.
