China Mobile officially released the 2020 Smart Hardware Quality Report a few days ago. According to the report, Huawei’s Kirin 990 has the highest download rate in the 5G chip evaluation. However, MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ performs well in power consumption during data transmission.
With the large-scale commercial use of China Mobile’s 5G, the powerful computing power, ultra-high download and upload rate, and excellent power consumption of 5G chips will help the rapid development of 5G. This 5G chip performance evaluation is the first comprehensive evaluation after large-scale commercial use, mainly under SA networking. The evaluation considers data upload and download performance. It also considers voice call performance and power consumption of the 5G chip.
The test covers four mainstream chips: Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+X55; Huawei Kirin 990, MediaTek Dimensity 1000+, and Samsung Exynos 980. It conducted a comprehensive survey with four dimensions, 18 scenarios, and 27 indicators.
The test results show that, on the whole, after less than a year of 5G development, industrial efforts, and SA toughening, the overall maturity of 5G chips have improved significantly compared with 2019. 5G chips can now offer users high-speed data transmission in a complex live network environment. Also, stable voice calls and good power consumption performance meets the current 5G commercial needs.
Gizchina News of the week
Kirin 990 5G chip holds an important lead
Through the comparison and analysis of typical indicators, Huawei Kirin 990 leads the download rate, and MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ performs well in power consumption during data transmission. The test looks at the throughput performance, voice performance, power performance, and download rate. Overall, the Dimensity 1000+ SoC seems to offer more than the other chips.
For voice performance, there is no significant difference between any of these chips. They all perform excellently at almost 100%. However, we can see that the Kirin 990 is tops followed by Exynos 980, Dimensity 1000+ before Snapdragon 865+X55.
In terms of power consumption, Exynos 980 has the weakest performance. The performance of Kirin 990 and Snapdragon 865+X55 are on par. However, Kirin 990 is a little higher.
The Kirin 990 is Huawei’s flagship 7nm 5G SoC which is available in a couple of its flagship smartphones. This processor is the predecessor of its latest Kirin 9000 5G SoC which could be its last 5G chip for the foreseeable future. With the Kirin 990 chip, you will not need a separate 5G model. This 7nm octa-core chipset that has 10.3 billion transistors. It uses two big, two medium, and four small cores to optimize multitasking, with clock speeds of 2.86GHz, 2.36GHz, and 1.95GHz respectively.
