We can say that 2020 has been a rough year for most smartphone makers due to the COVID-19 pandemic. These companies had complicated Q1 and Q2, but the reports for Q3 2020 are starting to show signs of a recovery. While smartphones suffered, we saw a sudden rise in the market of wearables. This segment comprises devices like TWS earphones and smartwatches. Talking about the latter, we saw many companies expanding their efforts in this segment in a bid to catch the user base and sustain something in this rough year. Realme has been one of the companies that invested more in smartwatches. A couple of months ago it made its debut in the market with the Realme Watch, now, it’s time for a second device dubbed Realme Watch S.
We have been seeing rumors and leaks for the past few months, and today, the company finally unveiled its new improved wearable. It’s a new smartwatch with a better display, SpO2 sensor, and a bigger battery. The better fact is that it does not come with an expensive price tag. In fact, it’s a good value for the money smartwatch.
The Realme Wach S comes with a 1.3-inch round dial display with 360 x 360 pixels of resolution. This panel is quite bright and to improve things, the company introduced a photosensitive sensor. It automatically adjusts the brightness according to the lighting conditions. You will not need to bother to change the brightness when you’re under the light of the sun, for example. This display also brings Gorilla Glass coating, unfortunately, Realme did not specify which generation of Gorilla Glass we have here.
Gizchina News of the week
Nowadays one of the biggest reasons to buy a new smartwatch is to get the whole package of features and sensors it offers. Fortunately, the Realme Watch S does not disappoint in this department. The new wearable brings a SpO2 sensor for blood oxygen level monitoring. This is one of the most trending features in 2020. After all, users can easily monitor the levels of oxygen in their blood. This is quite useful and important if you’re suffering from COVID-19 since you monitor the degradation of your body by the levels of oxygen in your blood. Apart from the SpO2 sensor, the watch also features the PPG Heart Sensor for continuous heart monitoring. As usual, this is a sport-centric smartwatch offering up to 16 Sports Modes.
The wearable also brings a body with an IP68 rating with up to 1.5m water resistance. It means it can survive some splashes, but it’s not recommended for swimming activities. The company provides more than one hundred watchfaces allowing you to customize your watch according to your taste. Realme ships the wearable with its own software, hence, we have a pretty stellar battery life of 15 days of normal usage. The battery size is 360mAh which is quite generous for a smartwatch.
The official specifications do not mention GPS functionality. So, you’ll need your smartphone for certain activities or navigation.
Pricing and Availability
Realme is asking PKR 14,999 for the Realme Watch S in Pakistan. That can be directly converted to $95 or €80 which is not bad for what the smartwatch offers. Customers in the country will be able to purchase the wearable starting from November 14. We are pretty sure the wearable will hit other markets including India in the next few weeks. So stay tuned.
