Chinese tech giant Xiaomi held its annual Mi Developers Conference (MIDC 2020) yesterday. At the conference, the company unveiled a number of groundbreaking technologies, including retractable telescopic camera technology, as well as several IoT software improvements and a brand new version of Xiao AI virtual assistant.
Xiaomi will recruit a record number of engineers despite the pandemic
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said that the basis for continuous technological advancements, especially in the field of cameras, is the constant investment in research and development and the recruitment of talented developers. He also announced that Xiaomi will continue to invest in human resources, planning to recruit a record number of employees next year.
“We believe that people are at the core of any innovation. When strengthening our technological expertise, we must always start by finding the best people. Currently, Xiaomi’s R&D department has over 10,000 talented employees. We plan to recruit another 5,000 people in 2021, despite the global pandemic. I want to make Xiaomi the dream company of every engineer for the next decade, and we will strengthen our strategy for developing talent and team composition”.
It should be added that Xiaomi celebrated 10 years since its foundation this year. This year alone, Xiaomi has committed more than $1.5 billion to research and development. Xiaomi is currently ranked among the 20 largest Chinese companies in terms of R&D investment.

Xiaomi to mass-produce multiple massive technologies next year
The company is among the top 5 smartphone manufacturers in 50 countries and regions. It is available in 47 high-end markets (per capita GDP over 10,000 US dollars), with a total shipment volume of over 62.4 million units. In terms of foreign high-end smartphone sales, its shipments in the 500-700 euro price range should increase by nearly 300% this year. For the price range above 700 euros, its shipments will grow by more than 300%.

Xiaomi MIX 4 not coming anytime soon
Furthermore, @DigitalChatStation claims that Xiaomi will not add to its Mi MIX series this year. According to his post, “Don’t wait for MIX for now, there is no mass production information for this series”. Recall that after the release of the Mi MIX 3 in 2018, there has been no other smartphone in the MIX series. So, if you are enthusiastic about a new MIX smartphone, it may be wise to reduce the enthusiasm.
