Apple has made a surprise tonight by lifting the veil on a brand new Mac Mini, a Mac Mini whose main feature is to embed the manufacturer’s new M1 chip.
A new Apple Mac Mini is launched with the new M1 chip
The look does not change. This Mac Mini under ARM uses the chassis of the previous model. Very compact, it therefore comes in the form of a square case with rounded corners and of course it is made of metal, with a neat design. It is quite different with its technical sheet, which no longer has much to do with what we knew.
The Mac Mini ARM is thus powered by an M1 chip. A chip made up of 8 cores on the CPU part and which offers increased performance compared to the past generation. Apple speaks about three times better performance compared to the old model equipped with four cores.
As for the GPU, it is 6 times better and it will therefore be possible to play heavy gameson this new Mac Mini. Added to this is better performance on machine learning thanks to the neural engine on board the M1 chip.
On the other hand, and unlike the new MacBook Air with the M1 chip, the Mac Mini will be equipped with a fan. It will therefore operate at maximum capacity all the time and it will even be able to support 6K screens. WiFi 6 is also supported.
The price ? the Mac Mini under M1 will therefore be offered at $699, the same price as the current model.
Apple officially announces the M1 chip for Mac
At Today’s Apple event with the theme “One More Thing”, Apple commenced the conference with the launch of the M1 chip for Mac. According to Apple, this chip is the first chip designed by Apple for the Mac. This chip boasts of low power consumption and small size. Apple said that the M1’s performance per watt has made a “great leap”.
The M1 chip comes with an eight-core CPU with 4 high-performance single-threaded cores and 4 high-performance cores. This chi also comes with an 8-core GPU. Furthermore, the Apple M1 comes with a 16-core neural engine. According to Apple, the M1 is the first PC chip to use industry-leading 5nm technology, with 16 billion transistors.
In terms of I/O, the Thunderbolt/USB4 master built into the M1 chip. Also, this chip has a unified memory architecture that integrates GPU and NPU. Apple believes that this chip comes with “the world’s fastest CPU core.”
