MediaTek expects to ship 45 million Dimensity chips in 2020


MediaTek Dimensity 800 Announced, Coming in Q2 2020

At the MediaTek US media communication meeting, the company executive, Gu Dawei, revealed that MediaTek’s goal is to exceed $10 billion in revenue by 2020. In terms of revenue, it will become the fourth largest IC design company in the world. It is worth mentioning that MediaTek’s R&D investment in 2020 is expected to reach $2.5 billion. The company’s Dimensity chips have been good so far.

Mediatek’s rapid growth in 2020 is from its comprehensive progress in smartphones, tablets, routers, smart TVs, and other fields. Among them, the smartphone business is the most eye-catching. At the same meeting, the company also unveiled the Dimenity 700, the latest member of the Dimensity series. It supports carrier aggregation (2CC 5G-CA) and 5G dual card dual standby (DSDS). It also offers faster as well as clearer 5G VoNR voice services. Dimensity 700 uses an eight-core CPU architecture, including two large-core ARM Cortex-A76, with a main frequency of up to 2.2GHz.

MediaTek expects to expand its 5G chip portfolio

Since the release of Dimensity 1000 last year, MediaTek has built a comprehensive 5G chip portfolio. It has become a strong competitor in the market. Especially facing the complex international, political and economic situation, the value of MediaTek has become more prominent. Dr. Xu Jingquan, Deputy General Manager of MediaTek and General Manager of Wireless Communications Division, revealed that it is expected to ship more than 45 million sets of Dimensity series chips in 2020. Its chips will ship to North America, Europe, the Middle East, China, Southeast Asia, and Australia. The company also expects to add South America and Africa in 2021. The likes of Eastern Europe, Russia, India, Japan, South Korea, and other regional markets will join later.

Furthermore, Xu Jingquan pointed out that global 5G smartphone shipments will exceed 200 million units in 2020. In addition, it will further increase to 500 million units in 2021. This is a huge opportunity for MediaTek.

MediaTek’s CEO Dr. Lixing Cai said; “We want to become a highly respected company that demonstrates strategic influence in the global semiconductor industry…With the outstanding performance in 2020, I believe that our goals are achievable…This year’s entire product portfolio provides competitive solutions and generates comprehensive and strong growth. This growth is not as a result of a single product line. This is very important”.

Cai Lixing revealed that about 2 billion terminal devices use MediaTek’s every year. In its supply chain, it has brands such as Oppo, LG, Samsung, Amazon, Microsoft, VIZIO, Belkin, Lenovo, Plotton, etc.
