Samsung has revolutionized its smartphone business with the arrival of competitive smartphones under the A and M-series. That is true and an undeniable fact. However, the company still needs to improve the availability of 5G among its cheaper devices. After all, the Chinese wave is coming with a set of brands starting to ship cost-effective devices featuring support for the fifth-gen networks. The company introduced the Galaxy A51 5G a couple of months ago, and one month ago introduced the Galaxy A42 5G. The device made its formal debut in Taiwan in the last month featuring 6GB of RAM. Now, the Korean firm wants to boost its sales with a new variant featuring 8GB of RAM.
The new version with extra multitasking capabilities can be purchased across retail stores in the country. The new variant costs TWD 13,990 which is around $490 or €415. The phone is available in three distinct Colorways – Black, White, and Grey. Thankfully, Samsung didn’t make this new 8GB version exclusive for a specific color. It gives users more choice. The company is offering up to TWD 1,000 discount for those buying from Samsung Smart Pavillion. Moreover, you can get an additional one-year warranty by trading in your old smartphone.
Gizchina News of the week
Samsung Galaxy A42 5G specifications
The Galaxy A42 5G is a solid mid-range smartphone with 5G capabilities. It’s one of the few smartphones right now running with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G. It’s an excellent chipset placed above the Snapdragon 720 and 730 series and the plus is that it offers 5G connectivity. In Taiwan, you can find 6GB and 8GB variants, both of them come with 128GB of Internal Storage. Of course, you can expand this amount with a microSD up to 1TB.
The phone flaunts a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and a standard 60Hz refresh rate. Since this is an OLED panel, Samsung easily fitted an in-display fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication. The panel also has a center-aligned punch-hole serving as a house for the 20MP selfie snapper. Moving around to the back, we have a Quad-Camera setup comprising a 48MP primary, 8MP ultrawide, 5MP macro, and a 5MP depth sensor. The phone draws power from a 5,000mAh battery and has a USB-C port. Unfortunately, the charging capabilities are capped at 15W fast-charging, which isn’t the fastest standard nowadays. Samsung, unfortunately, still is giving its first steps in this particular segment.
For now, it’s unclear if this variant will make way to other markets.
