This year, OnePlus surprised us all with the release of the OnePlus Nord, a mid-range phone with 5G connectivity. However, the first device was only the beginning of a brand new lineup of mid-range smartphones. In fact, 2020 is the year that OnePlus became more than just a premium smartphone maker, but a strong competition that acts in the multiple segments of the market. In the last month, the company further established its strategy with the release of the OnePlus Nord N10 and OnePlus Nord N100.
The former is a cheaper 5G phone with the Snapdragon 690, while the latter is a budget handset featuring the Snapdragon 460 SoC. The OnePlus Nord N100 comes to popularize the OnePlus in the budget segment and has compelling specs for this, like a recently discovered 90Hz display. On the software front, the phone runs the same OxygenOS 10 that popularized the company’s name among Android enthusiasts.
The OnePlus Nord N100 already received three firmware updates
The OnePlus Nord N100 went on sale starting November 10 in Europe and already received two firmware updates to improve its performance. The first OxygenOS 10.5.1 update arrives on November 3, a couple of days before the device’s release. On November 12, the handset received the second system update OxygenOS 10.5.2. Now a couple of days later, the budget smartphone is receiving its third software update in the form of OxygenOS 10.5.3. OnePlus began to seed the latest build on Saturday (November 21).
Gizchina News of the week
The new firmware brings improvements and some underhood optimizations. Obviously, it also carries a set of bug fixes and you can see all the details in the changelog below:
OxygenOS 10.5.3 update changelog:
- System
- Optimized system standby stability
- Optimized the compatibility of third-party apps
- Fixed known issues and improved system stability
- Network
- Improved connection stability of the mobile network
- Newly added support for more operator networks
It’s great to see that OnePlus is rolling a set of updates for OnePlus Nord and is trying to keep solid support. However, what remains a mystery is when this brand new smartphone will receive the OxygenOS 11 update. The OnePlus 8T, for instance, which also debuted in October came with OxygenOS 11 based on Android 11 straight out of the box. We’re still curious to see how OnePlus will keep its cheaper devices updated.
Apparently, OnePlus is shipping its smartphones without testing the software properly. Or at least, with unfinished firmware. This explains why the company is promptly rolling out multiple updates before and a few days after the release. This already happened with the OnePlus Nord.
