Back in September, Amazon hosted its annual fall event where it launched a total of 15 new devices. The e-commerce giant also showcased over a dozen Alexa skills and features. One such device was Amazon Echo Buds through which the company forayed into the wearable market. The Alexa-powered TWS earbuds come with Bose active noise cancellation technology along with premium armature drivers on each bud. Just like most Echo products out there, the Buds was also a work in progress and the brand promised to bring more improvements soon. Well, Amazon has now brought the ability to track workouts to its wireless earbuds. Let’s take a look at the feature in a bit more detail.
Amazon Echo Buds receives a new update, now supports workout tracking!
Thanks to the new firmware update, Amazon Echo Buds now can track your workouts using the built-in accelerometer. Users will now be able to track various fitness activities such as running, walking, calories burned, and more. Since the earbuds are powered by an Alexa assistant, the feature of course makes use of it. All you need to do is just ask the built-in Alexa to begin the tracking. You can simply say “Alexa, start a workout” or you can also make use of the companion Echo Buds app.

Once you are done with your activity, you can simply say “End my workout” and Alexa will take care of that. With the help of tracked activities, Amazon will showcase your personal stats in the ‘Workout Profile’ section. You can also ask for your progress by saying “Alexa, how far have I run?” or “Alexa, what’s my pace?”. Amazon has also made the support page for the feature live as well. The page talks about numerous features related to tracking features. You can find all of them down below.
- Calories Burned
- Workout Distance
- Step Count
- Average Pace
- Overall Time
According to the brand, the firmware update will reach all the units over the next couple of days. The update will download automatically when your buds will be in the charging case and of course, connected to the internet. With that said, the all-new native workout tracking is something that is missing on other premium offerings such as Buds Live and AirPods Pro. Amazon seems to be focussing a lot more on fitness via its products. For those who’re unaware, the company already has a smart Halo Fitness band that comes with numerous interesting features.
