Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit: Top executives from Xiaomi, Sony and OnePlus will be present

Qualcomm is gearing up for the 2020 edition of its Snapdragon Summit. The giant of mobile chipsets is about to unveil a new batch of Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets featuring 5G connectivity. We expect the company to unveil the highly anticipated Snapdragon 875. This is the first 5nm chipset made by a US-based manufacturer.

However, the company may also bring new chips for other segments like the rumored Snapdragon 775G that comes to replace the 765G. Last but not least, there are rumors pointing to the arrival of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset that will act as a “cost-effective” flagship SoC. According to recent reports, some high-profile executives from Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Sony will be there to give speeches at the event.

According to the report, notable tech executives that will be attending the event are Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s CEO, Mitsuya Kishida, President of Sony Mobile, and Kyle Kiang from OnePlus. Cristiano Amon, the president of Qualcomm, will open the event. However, the top executive will be joined on the stage by other representatives of Verizon and NTT Docomo. Those are the two largest carriers in the United States and in Japan, respectively.

Gizchina News of the week

Xiaomi, Sony, and OnePlus will play a big role at this year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit

One time that there are huge executives from top companies there, we expect big announcements to take place during the two-day event. According to rumors, Xiaomi is planning its Mi 11 series with the Snapdragon 875. Both devices will be announced early in 2021. We also heard rumors about Sony Xperia 1 III with the very same chipset. Last but not least, the OnePlus 9 is circulating through the rumor mill as its launch is expected for March 2021, a little earlier than usual.

Worth noting that Qualcomm keynotes will be streamed on multiple platforms. The company wants to ensure that all interested viewers will be able to access the event. In these days of the COVID-19 pandemic, events can’t be opened to the public, so companies are trying to adapt. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Tech Summit will happen on December 1 and 2 in Hawaii. The 2020 edition is the fifth in the series. We expect to hear a lot of great news regarding 5G connectivity.

In the next year, the amount of 5G smartphones will double. For that reason, we are curious to see which Qualcomm is preparing for this segment. MediaTek already has cost-effective chipsets with 5G chipsets. So far, we can say that the Dimensity lineup, in some aspects, is more cutting-edge and cost-effective than Qualcomm offers. So far, the Snapdragon 765G and Snapdragon 690 are the only 5G chipsets available for the mid-range audience.

The Snapdragon 875 will be the star of the show. However, we’re eagerly waiting for new cost-effective chipsets.
