Back in April this year, Xiaomi unveiled the latest version of its Android skin dubbed MIUI 12. The new update started to roll out for several of the company’s devices since then. It introduces a set of new features as new privacy controls, battery optimizations, and a new Dark Mode 2.0. Xiaomi was working hard to ensure that most of its devices will receive it by the end of the year. Meanwhile, the company is also working to bring Android updates for the latest devices. After all, users aren’t satisfied anymore in having updated MIUI and outdated Android. When the company launched the Redmi 9, the device came with Android 10. However, the MIUI version running on top was the 11th. After several months, the company is finally rolling out the MIUI 12 update for the budget device. Worth noting that this update is coming for the global Redmi 9 which is also known as Redmi 9 Prime in India.
Gizchina News of the week
Redmi 9 – One of the most successful Redmi devices released in 2020
Redmi 9 is one of the most successful devices released by Xiaomi this year. It managed to sit among the most shipped smartphones during the third quarter of 2020. The device is quite solid and is miles beyond its predecessor. It packs a 6.5-inch LCD with a waterdrop notch design and FHD+ resolution. Under the hood, we have the MediaTek Helio G80 SoC that proved to be a powerful chipset in the budget segment. The device brings a Quad-Camera setup led by a primary 13MP shooter and an 8MP ultra-wide sensor. There are other two 2MP sensors for macro and depth shots. Xiaomi classified this device as the “best camera device” in the low price segment. The icing on the cake is the 5,020mAh battery that charges through a USB-C port with 18W fast-charging. Despite its appeal and popularity, the device received the MIUI 12 update only now.
The new system update carries build number V12.0.1.0.QJCMIXM and is currently classified as Stable Beta. It means that only a select amount of users will receive this update in the first moment. If everything goes as planned, the company will proceed and roll out the update for more devices. If no critical bug is found, then a wider rollout will happen.
The update will take some time to reach all Redmi 9 units. After all, it has a Global, Indian, Russian, and EEA variant. Other versions should follow the global and receive the update in the coming days. Hopefully, the update will reach all devices by the end of December. The beta build is available on the MIUI Telegram Channel.
