In early December, Qualcomm will host the Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit Digital 2020 on the Hawaiian island of Maui to unveil the next-generation Snapdragon 875 SoC and other products.
Now, an insider has published on the Chinese social network Weibo the first test results of unknown smartphones equipped with Snapdragon 875 SoC and Snapdragon 775G SoC.
The Snapdragon 875-based smartphone scored around 740,000 points in the popular AnTuTu benchmark app, roughly 25% faster than the Snapdragon 865+ based smartphones.
The Snapdragon 875, which is manufactured in a 5nm process, is rumored to use a “1 + 3 + 4” architecture. One Cortex-X1 core is clocked at 2.84 GHz, there are also three Cortex-A78 cores at 2.42 GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores at 1.8 GHz. The Snapdragon 875 is also expected to receive the Andreno 660 GPU.
At the moment, we do not have any details about the architecture of the Snapdragon 775G SoC; which will be the successor to the Snapdragon 765G. However, the first test result in AnTuTu showed that the smartphone based on the Snapdragon 775G scored about 530,000 points, which means that the new SoC is about 65% faster than the Snapdragon 765G.
Snapdragon 875: Here are all the manufacturers to use this chip by January 2021
Next month, Qualcomm is expected to hold its annual Snapdragon summit where it will announce its latest flagship processor, Snapdragon 875 SoC. There have been a couple of leaks and speculations regarding this chip. The analysis of the running points between SD875, Kirin 9000, and Exynos 2100 show that there will be a battle between these chips. Looking at the speculations so far, Samsung Galaxy S21 may be the first phone to use this chip globally. However, the Xiaomi Mi 11 may be the first to use this device in China.
Gizchina News of the week
A recent leak from @DigitalChatStation shows all the manufacturers to use this chip in China before January 2021. According to the leak, Honor will not use this chip before January 2021 despite its detachment from Huawei. The leak shows the following manufacturers
- Xiaomi: Including Redmi and BlackShark
- Vivo: Including iQOO)
- BBK Electronics: Including Oppo, Realme, OnePlus),
These are the manufacturers to use this chip before the end of 2021. However, several other manufacturers will use this chip. Nevertheless, their devices will not launch in January next year.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 SoC – What we know so far
According to popular Weibo leakster @DigitalChatStation, from the prototype point of view, the Snapdragon 875 uses a 5nm process technology, with one 2.84GHz super-large core, three 2.42GHz A78 cores, and four 1.8GHz A55 cores. Furthermore, the new report also claims that it will use an Andreno 660 GPU. In addition, the leaker claims that the cache and memory bandwidth of this chip will improve. According to previous information, the Snapdragon 875 processor uses a “1+3+4” eight-core design, of which “1” is the super-large core Cortex X1; and its peak performance is 23% higher than Cortex A78.
In conclusion, DigitalChatStation believes that the Snapdragon 875 SoC focuses on lower power consumption. However, this is not to say that the performance will be weak, it is not. In fact, it will still lead.
The code name of this chip is “Lahaina”. Lahaina is the largest census-designated place in West Maui, Maui County, Hawaii. Recall that Qualcomm previously announced that it will hold a Snapdragon chip conference in Hawaii in December. The Qualcomm Snapdragon Technology Summit will hold on December 1. We expect Qualcomm to officially announce the new 5nm flagship Snapdragon 875 chip at this conference.
In addition, @数码闲聊站 also claims that Xiaomi Mi 11 (tentative name) will first launch the Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 flagship chip in China and it will have an “exclusive period” after launch. Outside China, it appears that the Samsung Galaxy S21 will introduce this chip.
