On December 8, Huihuibao (a Chinese store) counted the value preservation index of new 5G phones in 2020. The Xiaomi Mi 10 was elected as the ‘most value-preserved 5G smartphone of the year’ with a score of 73.22.
Huishuibao ranked the value preservation index of various smartphone brands with the “Brand Preservation Index”. Brand Preservation Index = the average value of all models released by the brand in the first half of 2020. Value preservation index = 80% of the new market price at the time of launch 3 months/new machine launch price x 100
The Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro are the top two, and the Honor 30 Pro+ ranks third.
In addition, the Huawei Mate Xs, Huawei P40, Huawei P40 Pro, Honor 30 Pro, OnePlus 8, Honor Play 4, and Huawei Nova 7 have also squeezed appeared in the top 10.
Smartphone Shipments In 2020
According to the smartphone shipment situation announced by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, from January to October 2020, the total domestic smartphone market has shipped 252 million units. 124 million of them are 5G smartphones. This accounts for 49.4% of the total.
Gizchina News of the week
Among the 124 million 5G smartphones, there are a total of 183 models. They range from 1,000 yuan to 10,000 yuan ($153 – $1530). Thus, customers have various options to choose from.
It is worth mentioning that starting from June this year, 5G smartphone shipments have steadily accounted for more than 60%. Following this trend, there is basically no suspense that 5G smartphones account for more than half of the total in 2020.
Just recently, IDC expressed optimism about the growth of the smartphone market in the fourth quarter. The market research company pointed out that the growing demand for 5G smartphones was the main driving force. The overall shipments are expected to grow 2.4% year-on-year, reaching to 377.7 million units. This upward trend should continue in 2021, an increase of 4.4% from 2020. Though the planet is ‘infected’, the ‘astonishingly fast recovery of the supply chain’ and ‘significant incentives’ from OEM and 5G terminal channels will make the market grow again.
