After weeks flooded with leaks and speculation, it’s finally official – The Samsung Galaxy S21 series will make its debut on January 14. Samsung confirmed earlier today a new Galaxy Unpacked event where we will know all details about the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra. All the official details, I mean. After all, all these devices have been leaking a lot since October. The trio of devices will pack compelling specifications, infinite displays, and most of the specs that Galaxy Fans have been used to. “Most of” since the recurring microSD card feature will be only available in the Galaxy S21 Ultra.
When Google decided to boycott the microSD cards due to their reduced speeds in comparison to eMMC and the modern UFS standards, many companies promptly followed. However, Samsung was one of the few companies still betting on the microSD standard for their flagships. While most mid-range devices still bring a slot for microSD cards, this is rare among flagships. Some years ago, the Korean firm presented a new solution of UFS cards, but they never really reached the end consumer. Now, the company seems to be putting an end to microSDs availability on their flagships.
The first step was given with the Galaxy Note20 which lacked MicroSD card support. Now, it seems that the Galaxy S20 and S20+ will also follow the trend. A couple of days ago, a detailed spec sheet on the Galaxy S21 and S21+ claimed neither device will come with a microSD card slot. Now, Roland Quandt is confirming these speculations.
