Today, Qualcomm Technologies announced the launch of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 5G mobile platform. This is the first Snapdragon 4 series mobile platform that supports 5G.
Kedar Kondap, vice president of product management at Qualcomm Technologies, said: ‘Qualcomm Technologies continues to accelerate 5G commercialization globally to make 5G smartphones more accessible, especially as people worldwide continue to connect remotely. The Snapdragon 480 5G Mobile Platform will exceed OEM’s and consumer’s expectations in delivering high- and mid-tier features at an affordable price.’
Qualcomm said that the Snapdragon 480 5G mobile platform brings the most advanced features to date for the Snapdragon 4 series:
5G connectivity
The Snapdragon 480 uses Snapdragon X51 5G modem and radio frequency system, supports millimeter wave and Sub-6GHz 5G connections, supports independent (SA) and non-independent (NSA) networking modes, and supports TDD, FDD and dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS). All these bring excellent mobile performance and connection experience. The Snapdragon X51 supports multi-gigabit 5G connection speed. Thus, it enables ultra-high-speed upload and download speeds. And multi-band support can also enhance flexibility and usability. With Qualcomm FastConnect™ 6200 mobile connection subsystem, the Snapdragon 480 can not only provide Bluetooth 5.1 and advanced wireless audio features, but also support 2×2 Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi dual antennas) and 8×8 detection of MU-MIMO. These 6 key features that can significantly improve the transmission range and performance. The Snapdragon 480 also introduces other innovative wireless technologies, including support for dual-frequency GPS and NavIC to achieve precise positioning.
Gizchina News of the week
Performance and battery life
The Snapdragon 480 allows smartphone users to maintain work efficiency longer and to charge the terminal faster. The platform uses an 8nm process technology and is equipped with Qualcomm Kryo™ 460 CPU, Qualcomm Adreno™ 619 GPU and Qualcomm Hexagon™ 686 processor with a 2.0GHz main frequency. Compared with the previous generation platform (Snapdragon 460), it has a CPU and GPU performance improvement of up to 100%, and up to 70% AI performance improvement. The Snapdragon 480 is also the first Snapdragon 4 series platform to support Qualcomm’s Quick Charge™ 4 + technology.
Photography
Through the Qualcomm Spectra™ 345 ISP, this platform realizes the support of three ISPs for the first time in the Snapdragon 4 series. So it can take excellent photos and videos, using three cameras at the same time. Triple 13-megapixel photo shooting can use ultra-wide-angle, wide-angle and telephoto cameras for simultaneous image output, or capture three 720p videos at the same time.
Entertainment
The Snapdragon 480 improves user experience in streaming and gaming. It supports 120Hz FHD+ display, which can provide excellent content clarity and fast and smooth graphics rendering speed. The platform relies on Qualcomm’s aptX™ audio technology, experience optimization for popular game masterpieces, seamless HD content streaming and faster application loading time to provide users with a full range of immersive entertainment experience.
The first commercial terminals equipped with the Snapdragon 480 5G mobile platform are expected to be available in early 2021.
