While many companies are sticking to punch-hole solutions to kill the notch, others like ZTE are giving a step close to the future. This year, the Chinese firm announced the ZTE Axon 20 as the world’s first commercially available phone featuring a front-facing camera under the display. The device finally reached the global markets last month. Now long after the Chinese launch, the device got a new variant with a new colorway dubbed Extreme Edition. Now, this particular color is arriving at global markets under the name Sunset Yellow

ZTE introduced the Axon20 5G in September claiming the tile of the world’s first commercially available smartphone with a front-facing camera under the display. Later on, it followed it up with an Extreme edition in China and it’s now delivering that in global markets under the name Sunset Yellow. On January 7, the Chinese firm will start gathering pre-orders on its global website. The new variant will cost €449/£419/$449.

For those unaware, the ZTE Axon 20 5G brings a distinct feeling and those who love texturized backs rather than glossy finishes should enjoy it. The new variant comes with vegan leather and is friendly to the skin. It consequently has more grip, durability, and isn’t a scratch or fingerprint magnet like the black colorway. Apart from the new finish and color, the device is basically the same as the original ZTE Axon 20.

ZTE Axon 20 specifications

The handset gets all its appeal from a gorgeous 6.92-inch 90Hz OLED without any kind of interruption. It’s a bezel-less display housing a 32MP camera underneath. There are some compromises in image quality. However, it’s the closest we will have from an invisible selfie camera right now. To make things complete, this phone also packs an under-display fingerprint scanner.

Under the hood, the phone packs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G SoC that has been available in a huge plethora of 5G mid-range phones. It’s paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of Internal Storage.

In the camera department, the phone has a 64MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle snapper, a 2MP depth lens, and a 2MP portrait module. The phone brings Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC and a USB Type-C port. There is a 4,220mAh battery with 30W fast-charging keeping the lights on. The phone runs Android 10 OS with ZTE MiFavor 10.5 running on top.

We may see more companies joining the in-display camera trend this year. However, for now, the only way you can get this technology is by purchasing a ZTE Axon 20 5G.
