Over the years, OnePlus has gradually added flagship features to its smartphones. Last year, the manufacturer finally added wireless charging to the OnePlus 8 Pro.
Last year’s OnePlus 8 Pro supports 30W wireless charging. In 2021, the company will take it to the next level with the introduction of wireless charging in the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro, while the Pro model will support wireless charging at up to 45W.
The OnePlus 9 Pro will require a new proprietary wireless charger that will allow it to charge at maximum power. In addition, the smartphone will also support reverse wireless charging. It’s unclear how much wireless charging power the standard OnePlus 9 model will support.
OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro should be presented in March-April this year.

Back in the last year, OnePlus presented a new strategy marked with the arrival of two variants of its flagships – a vanilla and a Pro variant. This year, the company followed with the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro and even expanded its smartphone business with new mid-range devices. For the next year, the company will bring another change to its flagship series with the addition of a third model dubbed OnePlus 9 Lite. In fact, the company was planning something like that this year, but the third model, known as OnePlus Nord was delayed due to the pandemic. Recently, a couple of live images surfaced confirming the OnePlus 9 design and some of its key specs. The handset has a punch-hole camera and comes with a reverse wireless charging feature.

The OnePlus 9 will come with 65W fast-charging and a bigger battery capacity
The OnePlus 8 Pro is so far the only device with wireless and reverses wireless charging. It’s a surprise to see that these features are coming for the vanilla flagship next year. After all, the OnePlus 8T released in October didn’t pack any of these features. The OnePlus 9 series, apparently, represents a major step for the company. According to 91mobiles, the OnePlus 9 will get a 65W fast-charging. This tech was presented with the OnePlus 8T and will be a standard for the next year’s flagships. Further, the battery of the vanilla is getting a significant bump from the 4,300mAh in the vanilla 8 to the 4,500mAh battery in the OnePlus 9.
According to reports, the OnePlus will release its devices in mid-March. Just like other companies, OnePlus is bringing its yearly flagships a little bit earlier than usual. It’s curious to see how many leaks are popping out. After all, we’re still three months away from a release. Based on this we expect more details to keep popping out in the coming months prior to the release.
The Lite variant will have a Snapdragon 865 SoC
Both the vanilla 9 and 9 Pro are set to come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888. However, a new report states that the OnePlus 9 Lite will differ from a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865. That’s a strategy that Realme used this year with the release of the Realme X3 SuperZoom featuring last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+. For those unaware, Realme is a sister brand. The 9 Lite with the Snapdragon 865 will probably be cheaper than the other two, but probably will not be cheap as the OnePlus Nord. So in the end, we’re curious to see how the Lite variant will perform in the market.
